J-WRC: Abbring battles on as Kosciuszko snatches the lead

28.06.2009: Local driver Michal Kosciuszko moved back the lead of the Junior World Rally Championship class in Poland after another tense battle in the two-wheel drive category this morning.

Local driver Michal Kosciuszko moved back the lead of the Junior World Rally Championship class in Poland after another tense battle in the two-wheel drive category this morning.

At the wheel of his Suzuki swift, Kosciuszko edged 0.1sec ahead of overnight leader Kevin Abbring on Sunday's opening stage and was quicker again on SS15 to hold a slim 1.8sec advantage at the midpoint service.

"We’re having great fun great fun now, I love to race when the fight is this close," grinned Kosciuszko after SS15. "Kevin is going really well and I expect the repeated stages will be harder for both of us. But I've got a little in reserve; I'm not quite flat-out yet."

Renault Clio R3 driver Abbring said could have been quicker too, but had struggled for traction in the muddy conditions. "Maybe I was too cautious here [SS15] it was really slippery and we couldn't get the grip. I'll keep trying to catch Michal but for me it would be a good result either way."

Citroen C2 driver Martin Prokop ended the morning loop third, 38.3 seconds behind Abbring, while Yoann Bonato remained fourth in his private Suzuki.
