Trident Racing's unlucky break continues with double DNF

Trident Racing ended the day prematurely at Sentul, in the first race of the second GP2 Asia Series event: after experiencing a positive start, both cars were forced to leave the track early. Harald Schlegelmilch had a bright qualifying performance, that could have been even more successful without the interruption decided by race control to change the session`s status to wet.

The Latvian driver was in fact prevented from exploiting the final dry track moments while running under the pole-setting time. He ended up in 7th place, five spots in front of team-mate Ho Pin Tung, at his first experience on the Indonesian track too. Right after the start, Schlegelmilch was blocked by the crashed car of Bakkerud, being left with nowhere to go. At that time, nothing could have been done to avoid the impact.

Ho Pin Tung`s races lasted longer but, after a constant improvement, the Chinese driver was forced to park his car due to an engine failure, caused by a small piece of debris hitting a radiator. The final results were heavily conditioned by the dusty track, with just 11 cars making their way to the checkered flag.

Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Managing Director

"Of course, today`s results were under our expectations, after the good state of form we shown in practice. We just had everything needed to target a big result, but an unlucky episode put Schlegelmilch out of play too soon. The bad track conditions are to blame for what happened to Ho Pin Tung, as the engine failure that abruptly ended his day was due to a small rock that hit the radiator.

We noticed a general lack of cleaning, though, with a lot of debris lost by other cars still on-track at the end. Wings and bodyworks were seriously hit, and even helmets suffered some damage. Apart from the material part, we have to consider the highly professional environment that the GP2 is expected to be. Today`s track services were not at the best possible level".
