Points finish for Ultimate Signature in Race two at Estoril

Ultimate Signature's Esteban Guerrieri claimed a solid sixth place finish in race two of the World Series by Renault at Estoril, Portugal, having made up four places from his grid position of 10th.

The 23 year-old Argentinian had an excellent race, in which he made some impressive overtaking manoeuvres, to claim his second points finish of the weekend after taking fifth place in race one yesterday.

"It wasn't an easy race as I had to avoid a pile-up at the start and that meant I was on the back foot for the first lap or so," said Guerrieri. "We recovered quite quickly and I was able to push hard, but then I got some oversteer just before the mandatory pit stop.

Unfortunately the radio intercom was not working properly so the boys weren't expecting me when I came in, but despite that they still did an absolutely fantastic job to get me out again quickly. I could push hard again after that and made up another place. All in all, it's been a good solid weekend and we've done a nice job. I would have liked to have qualified higher up the grid, but as a racing driver you are never happy!"

Race one yesterday was the highlight of the weekend for Ultimate Signature, as Fabio Carbone claimed a stunning race victory after a masterful display of driving.

Unfortunately he was not able to repeat that performance today, as another competitor drove into him on the opening lap. The Brazilian had started from fifth on the grid, but was forced to drive slowly back to the pits and retire with rear suspension damage.

Carbone retains second in the title race with just one more race meeting to go, but the drivers' title has already been won. By contrast there is still everything to play for in the teams' standings, where Ultimate Signature is currently third with two races remaining.

Ultimate Signature Team Manager Colin Morgan commented: "It started off as an excellent weekend for us, with Fabio's excellent win in race one, but unfortunately we weren't able to carry that form through to the second race. Nonetheless, we've had three points finishes this weekend, which is always a good result.

The team did an excellent job on the pit-stop, which underlines just how well everything is working at the moment. We're still in contention for the teams' championship, so we will be concentrating all our efforts on that in the next race."

The next and final meeting of this year's World Series by Renault will be at Barcelona, Spain, from 18-19 October.

Fabio Carbone stood on the top step of the podium in race one, but contact with another competitor ended his race two prematurely.
