There was a sense of reduced pressure as the field headed through the 13th stage of the event, Urria, despite the fact the stage contained the biggest jump of the event.

On the second of the split Ouninpohja stages, both Marcus Gronholm and Sebastien Loeb hit the same rock and suffered damage. However, while Gronholm looked to get away with it, Loeb wasn't so lucky.

The first of the two most famous stages in rallying, Ouninpohja Lansi, saw business as usual at the front of the field, over the huge jumps which make up the stage.
This is the first part of what used to be a single stage but the average speed was deemed to high, so it was split into two separate tests.

The first stage of leg two was a relatively busy affair. Overnight leader Marcus Gronholm was fastest, making no mistakes on the first of the very high speed tests. However, he was more than aware that Sebastien Loeb and Petter Solberg will both be turning the pressure up today.

Marcus Gronholm re-asserted himself on the seventh stage of the event, taking the win ahead of Sebastien Loeb by just 4.3secs. In a familiar vein, Mikko Hirvonen was third fastest, a further 3.2secs back with Petter Solberg just 0.8sec behind the Finn.

Sebastien Loeb took another win on the sixth stage of the event, with a margin of just 1.1 seconds over Marcus Gronholm. Henning Solberg was third-fastest, just 3secs behind the Finn while Mikko Hirvonen was fourth, a further 1.5secs back.

Patrick Sandell has had a tricky event so far in Finland but the fifth stage of the event really caught him out.

The third stage of the event saw BP-Ford team-mates Marcus Gronholm and Mikko Hirvonen set almost identical times through the stage, 5m40.8 and 5m40.9 respectively.
Petter Solberg was again third fastest, his Impreza clearly revelling in the conditions while Loeb was almost as close to Solberg as Hirvonen was to Gronholm, just 0.4sec off the Norwegian's pace.

The Neste Oil Rally Finland kicked off in its usual fine style this evening, with the first of two runs round the superspecial stage at the Killeri trotting track in Jyvaskyla. An estimate 15,000 fans turned out to watch the action and the field didn't disappoint.
