Zentral-Europa-Rallye vom 20. bis 26. April
Volkswagen nimmt mit fünf Race Touareg an der Zentral-Europa-Rallye teil, die vom 20. bis 26. April durch Ungarn und Rumänien führt. Darüber hinaus wird Volkswagen in der Saison 2008 mit zwei Werkswagen bei der Marathon-Rallye dos Sertoes vom 18. bis 28. Juni in Brasilien an den Start gehen und sich intensiv auf die Rallye Dakar 2009 vorbereiten, die vom 03. bis 18. Januar erstmals durch Argentinien und Chile führt.
"Die Zentral-Europa-Rallye bedeutet eine neue Herausforderung im Marathon-Rallyesport, auf die wir uns freuen. Wir werden mit vier Werkswagen antreten und einen fünften Race Touareg für das Kundenteam Lagos einsetzen", erklärt Volkswagen Motorsport-Direktor Kris Nissen.
"Nach der ,Dakar'-Absage im Januar ist die Motivation unserer Mannschaft enorm hoch, unsere Leistungsstärke zu zeigen. Dafür bietet uns die neue Rallye eine interessante und anspruchsvolle Plattform."
Die Rallye führt vom Start am 20. April in Budapest über 3.000 Kilometer durch Ungarn und Rumänien und endet am 26. April am Plattensee.
Vorbereitung auf neue ASO-Rallye mit Testfahrten in Ungarn
Zum Einsatz kommen jene fünf Race Touareg 2, mit denen Volkswagen ursprünglich im Januar bei der 30. Ausgabe der Rallye Dakar starten wollte, die dann jedoch kurzfristig wegen Terrorwarnungen abgesagt wurde.
Die Allrad-Prototypen mit 280 PS starkem TDI-Diesel-Motor werden pilotiert von den 2007-er Marathon-Weltcup-Gewinnern Carlos Sainz/Michel Périn (Spanien/Frankreich) sowie Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (Südafrika/Karlshof), Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/Südafrika) und von Dieter Depping/Timo Gottschalk (Wedemark/Berlin).
Im Cockpit des Lagos-Touareg nehmen Carlos Sousa/Andreas Schulz (Portugal/München) Platz. Zu den Vorbereitungen auf den Einsatz bei der Zentral-Europa-Rallye werden auch Testfahrten in Ungarn gehören.
Organisiert wird die Zentral-Europa-Rallye von der ASO, dem französischen Veranstalter der Rallye Dakar. In den Punkten Organisation, Sicherheit und Vermarktung soll die neue ASO-Rallye in Ungarn und Rumänien den gleichen Standard wie die Rallye Dakar aufweisen.
Kris Nissen: "Wir begrüßen die Entscheidung des Veranstalters ASO, neben der traditionellen Rallye Dakar als Saison-Höhepunkt mit der Zentral-Europa-Rallye eine weitere Möglichkeit anzubieten, Marathon-Rallyesport auf höchstem Niveau zu betreiben."
