A1 Team Brasil targets points in the Czech Republic

10.10.2007: A1 Team Brasil targets points in the Czech Republic

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, Round 2 - Brno, Czech Republic

After a hugely successful season opener at Zandvoort a fortnight ago, the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will make its next stop at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic this weekend. Sergio Jimenez will be in action for A1 Team Brasil for round two and has the firm objective of opening the team’s points account at the Czech track.

Sergio made his A1GP debut for Team Brasil at the opener in the Netherlands, and has been confirmed by the team for the first four races of this season. Sergio finished the sprint and feature races at Zandvoort in 13th and 11th positions respectively, narrowly missing out on points in the latter event.

However, the 23-year-old’s focus is now firmly on netting a strong points haul in the forthcoming round to enable Team Brasil to climb up the championship ladder.

The 5.4km Brno circuit is undulating in nature and offers plenty of opportunities. It is an exciting track featuring long straights and a mix of fast and twisty corners and that, combined with the unpredictable weather conditions, promises a thrilling event not only for the drivers, but for spectators and television fans worldwide.

Emerson Fittipaldi, Team Principal: "The track at Brno is very technical and is similar to the old European courses with many elevation changes and fast and slow turns. It needs the maximum performance from the driver and, because Sergio is a very technical driver, I think he will adapt quickly to the track.

If we hadn’t had the pitstop problems in Zandvoort we would have been around sixth or seventh position in the feature race and for Brno we expect at least this level of performance. However, our true aim is the podium, and I’m sure we can make it."

Sergio Jimenez: "It was an amazing feeling to drive at Zandvoort in that incredible atmosphere and now I’m really looking forward to the next round of A1GP at Brno. We had a good race pace at the last round, so now we need to work on improving our qualifying to put us in a better position for the race. Brno is another new circuit for me, but I learn very quickly.

It will help that I am able to drive in the rookie practice session because I can learn the track earlier and then get to work on the car, meaning we can head into qualifying better prepared. I’m pretty confident for a top six performance this weekend and that is what we will be working towards."
