A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, Round 2 - Brno, Czech Republic

A1 Team Brazil’s Sergio Jimenez got his first taste of the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic today as the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport began round two of the championship. Today saw rookie drivers and developing nations beginning the action this morning in the first practice session, before this afternoon’s full one-hour practice saw the weekend’s race drivers sizing up their opposition.
Sergio was able to take advantage of the rookie session as he has competed less than six A1GP races, and is under the age limit of 28-years-old. He completed nine laps and was ninth fastest in the first segment of the 50-minute session, which is split into two with a ten-minute break in the middle. Unfortunately he was forced to sit out the second segment while the team got to work on a broken exhaust, and so missed 25-minutes of track time.
In this afternoon’s one-hour session Sergio completed 18 laps of practice, finishing eighth fastest. The team worked hard developing the car throughout the hour and will have a further one-hour of practice tomorrow morning before the afternoon’s qualifying to set the grid for Sunday’s two races.
Sergio Jimenez: "The circuit here is new for me but I like it very much. It is very long and very technical and I spent the first half of the rookie session just learning the track. Unfortunately we then had some problems and we couldn’t run so I didn’t do that many laps this morning.
This afternoon we started with new tyres, like everyone, and the car wasn’t so good at the start. We worked on it through the session and I am confident with the improvements that we made.
The pace of the car is okay on old tyres and now we just need to work on the pace on new tyres, which we will do tomorrow morning. We need a bit more work but I’m aiming for a top six position in qualifying tomorrow."
