Alexandre Imperatori - Excellent performance at A1GP Finale

Fighting off a fever, Imperatori concluded the A1GP season with an excellent outing in Brands Hatch for the swiss team, finishing 2nd, just a tenth adrift from the top time.

Alexandre Imperatori was once again nominated as the rookie driver for the A1 Team Switzerland at Brands Hatch (UK) for the finale of the championship. With Switzerland hoping to defend its title and be the first to do so, the job was all important for Alexandre with no room for error.

A test program had been previously established with engineer James Robinson, for Alex to go through, including an engine check following a recent change of the power unit. The young swiss from Geneva could manage to do it all despite being weakened by fever.

Alexandre:
“It was definitely harder to drive than usual but I still enjoyed it as much as usual and it is not a fever that will stop me from pushing hard in the racing car. However I must admit it did affect my focus a bit as I did some unusual mistakes. But in the end the result was very positive”

In the first 30 minutes session, Alexande set his fastest time near the end of the session: 1.14.860 to go first before Prost (FRANCE) eclipsed him with a late flyer 1.14.818. In the second session, Imperatori put the swiss car on top again with three consecutive improving laps culminating in a 1.13.832, 1.5 seconds quicker than the official lap record. In the end, France also managed to dip below the 1min14 bar and went ahead by just 0.149s.

Alexandre Imperatori:
“The car felt good and I could push more and more. Now I hope Neel can build on that and we can win the championship for the second time!”

In the afternoon session, reserved for the lead drivers, Neel Jani didn’t manage to improve onAlexandre’s morning time while  title rivals Ireland finished second.
