Today, Thursday, Volkswagen Group and documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH  have officially announced that the fourteenth iteration of the renowned international art exhibition will be supported by the Volkswagen Group.



This will be the fourth time that Volkswagen Group partners with documenta. In the course of the previous thirteen iterations of documenta, the exhibition has become a place for major debates on contemporary culture and its current sociopolitical contexts.



 The fourteenth edition takes place in Athens (April 8–July 16, 2017) and Kassel (June 10–September 2017).



The Artistic Director of documenta 14, Adam Szymczyk, has proposed a twofold structure, reflected in the working title Learning from Athens, as the guiding principle for documenta 14.



In 2017, Kassel and the Greek capital will host the exhibition on an equal footing: Kassel has relinquished its hitherto undisputed position as the central exhibition venue in favor of another role, namely that of a guest in Athens.



As well as coming to bear on the actual process of creating an exhibition in two parts, the different locations and divergent historical, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds of Athens and Kassel inspire and influence the individual works of art.



documenta is held in high regard by both visitors and professionals, enabling the exhibitions to generate strong and lasting impulses. Benita von Maltzahn, Head of Cultural and Social Engagement at Volkswagen Group Communication, notes: "A vibrant conversation with the arts and culture is an elementary force within society.

Apart from sponsoring the overall concept and realization of the exhibition, a number of other joint activities are planned: for example, trainees and apprentices from the Volkswagen plant in Kassel will help erect the Parthenon of Books, a work by the Argentinean artist Marta Minujin.



Furthermore, the Volkswagen Group will supply the documenta organization team as well as various artists with its cars; a number of support vehicles will also be made available for a transnational art project.



The theme of E-Mobility connects documenta with the Volkswagen location Kassel. Within the Volkswagen Group, Kassel serves as a worldwide hub for electric drives.
