World premiere: Opel shows new Insignia GSi, Grand Sport and Sports Tourer

Electric vehicles: Opel Grandland X as plug-in hybrid and Corsa-e

Motor sport: Opel presents the battery-electric Corsa-e Rally

Bestseller: new Opel Astra and Opel Corsa with extra efficient powertrains

CEO Michael Lohscheller today opened the Opel stand at the Brussels Motor Show (January 9-19). The German manufacturer is showing its new flagship to the public for the first time. The Opel Insignia celebrates its world premiere as a sporty GSi, elegant Grand Sport and spacious Sports Tourer.

At the same time, Opel is presenting its electrified models, from the brand's first plug-in hybrid to purely battery-electric rally cars. The especially spacious Opel Zafira Life and Combo Life are also on show in Brussels. The Astra and Corsa bestsellers with economical powertrains round off the German brand’s portfolio.

Opening the stand, Lohscheller said: “Opel meets the challenge of strict CO2 targets with the most efficient range of models in its history. Opel is going electric, with the Grandland X plug-in hybrid, the Corsa-e and soon with the Vivaro-e. We also offer highly economical internal combustion engines in the new Insignia, Astra and Corsa. We will comply with the CO2 guidelines.”

The new Opel Insignia: more efficient, more dynamic, safer

The flagship from Rüsselsheim makes its debut with newly developed, highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. In addition, new low-friction transmissions reduce fuel consumption and increase driving comfort. The customer can choose between a six-speed manual transmission, a particularly economical stepless automatic and eight- and nine-speed automatic transmissions.

In addition, active full-face aero shutters further improve the aerodynamics of the new Insignia at the front. Compared to the previous model, consumption is reduced by up to 18 percent according to NEDC1. The combined CO2 emissions drop to around 100 grams per kilometer (NEDC). This makes the new Insignia one of the most efficient and economical models in its segment.

The extra-slim headlights with groundbreaking LED technology make a particular contribution to the fresh design. The new adaptive IntelliLux LED® pixel light now has 84 LED elements per headlight! For Insignia drivers, this means that the headlights react even faster and more precisely than before, so that visibility is further improved. Turning night into day in milliseconds without dazzling vehicles ahead or oncoming traffic. With this new IntelliLux LED® Pixel light generation, the Opel flagship leads its segment.

The Opel electric offensive: from Grandland X to Corsa-e Rally

With the Grandland X, Opel is showing the brand's first plug-in hybrid. The SUV will be launched this year - with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The purely battery-electric Corsa-e will also be rolling out to customers in 2020.

Sporty, efficient, suitable for everyday use, with a purely electric range of 337 kilometers according to WLTP2. The new Corsa-e Rally is also at the start. The first purely battery-electric rally car from a manufacturer is undergoing endurance tests as scheduled and will be ready for the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup from summer 2020.

Awarded: new Opel Corsa is "Best Buy Car of Europe 2020"

The sixth-generation Corsa is a car for the future, as it is available as a purely battery-electric vehicle. But the new Corsa with classic combustion engines is also more efficient, modern and dynamic than ever.

The 4.06-metre-long, five-door small car from the German carmaker features particularly economical petrol and diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 55kW (75hp) to 96kW (130hp). Moderate fuel consumption and an engaging drive are characteristic of all powertrain options (fuel consumption NEDC3: urban 5.5-3.7 l/100km; extra-urban 4.2-2.9 l/100km; combined 4.7-3.2 l/100km, 106-85 g/km CO2; WLTP4: combined 6.2-4.0 l/100 km, 140-105 g/km CO2).

Equally convincing are the advanced assistance systems, innovative infotainment and an excellent price-performance ratio. A real highlight is the adaptive glare-free IntelliLux LED® matrix light, which Opel is making widely available for the first time in the small car segment.

Up to 21 percent less CO2: the most efficient Opel Astra ever

The new Astra is the most efficient ever with up to 21 per cent lower CO2 emissions than the predecessor. Five of the seven powertrain combinations on offer even undercut the magical 100 gram mark for CO2 emissions per kilometre driven (NEDC3). With a completely new generation of engines and transmissions, the Opel Astra sets standards for low emissions, putting it at the top of the compact class. A new stepless automatic transmission and a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic gearbox also contribute to lower consumption and high comfort.

Meticulous development in the wind tunnel also made a significant contribution to the reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. At 0.26 Cd, the Sports Tourer belongs to the estate cars with the lowest drag coefficient in the world, while the five-door with the same value leads the hatchback class. As a result, the new Astra is one of the most aerodynamic compact cars on the market.
