Genesis G80 sedan and GV80 SUV both secure a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating in Europe

Euro NCAP recognises the brand’s debut models, the G80 sedan and the GV80 SUV

G80 sedan and GV80 SUV excelled across all four key Euro NCAP assessment areas: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist

Genesis is the only brand to hold an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ across the whole range in North America

The two debut models from Genesis Motor Europe, the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV have both been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The two models, which will go on sale later this summer, secured the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP, Europe’s leading independent safety testing organisation.

On 4 May, Genesis officially announced its plans for the European market, the home of premium luxury cars. The brand will commence European sales later this year, starting with Germany, the UK and Switzerland.

Against Euro NCAP’s criteria, both the Genesis G80 and GV80 all scored highly against the key NCA assessment areas: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist. Notably, the areas of Adult Occupant Safety and Child Occupant Safety performed well during testing with scores of 91% and 87%

In crash testing, Euro NCAP praised the impact stability and protection afforded by the passenger compartment of both G80 and GV80 during the side barrier test, with both cars scoring maximum points.

G80 and GV80 also scored highly for child occupant protection. Seat and head restraint tests demonstrated good passenger protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision, with the brand’s patented centre airbag scoring highly for helping to protect the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact.

In the Safety Assist category, Euro NCAP recognized Genesis for its 20+ advanced driver safety systems; in particular, the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) systems scored highly across the board. A full list of Genesis advanced safety systems can be found below with their function and accompanying acronym.

Dominique Boesch, Managing Director for Genesis Motor Europe, commented
: “We are very proud to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating for our first two cars in Europe. The safety of our vehicles is paramount, and we’re delighted to see that work recognized across the world, indeed in the US, Genesis is the only brand in 2020 whose entire vehicle line-up is IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rated.

“Euro NCAP is well-known globally and has long been trusted by customers to provide independent and impartial safety advice. For Genesis to score a maximum five-star rating for both the G80 and GV80, demonstrates our clear commitment to providing a first-class customer experience with safety as standard.”

With 10 airbags, and over 20+ driver assistance systems, the Genesis G80 and GV80 offer impressive levels of driver-assistance technologies including High-Beam Assist (HBA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW).

Orders for Genesis’ luxury sedan, the G80, and its SUV, the GV80, will open in summer, with the G70 sports sedan and the GV70 urban SUV following soon after.

Connected with operation of the indicators, it provides live video on the 12.3-inch instrument cluster of any vehicle that’s been detected in the rear lateral blind spot.

This system automatically brings the vehicle to a stop in certain situations where there is a risk of collision with an approaching vehicle that is detected on the left or right side of the junction. Pedestrian detection is included as part of this system

Evasive Steering Torque Assist (ESA)

Assists in avoidance maneuvers by applying steering torque once the driver has initiated steering input.
