Salt Lake City was the host of the second round of the Cooper Tires presents the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda. The race was held at the Miller Motorsports Park and Frédéric Vervisch was one of the top drivers of the weekend. The third place on the rostrum was a fine result for the young Belgian driver in only his second race in the United States.

Frédéric Vervisch: “From the first day, we set some very quick laptimes. We were well prepared before the start of the qualifying session and after half an hour we were able to set the third fastest time. Later it would seem that this starting position wasn’t an ideal one, as overtaking is very difficult on this narrow circuit. My start wasn’t good after some problems with the clutch. I was overtaken by Edwards. Later on, I regained a spot after my teammate Summerton made an error.

Thereafter, I attacked Edwards during the remainder of the race - for almost fifty minutes - but he was able to hold me off. I lost so much time behind him that the eventual winner, Simona De Silvestro, had a comfortable lead at the finish. At the end of the race I just tried to hold my third place instead of risking a good points finish by having an all-or-nothing overtaking attempt on Edwards. For the next race we will need to improve the race setup to make the car faster for the races.”

“The team has made an excellent choice by putting all their trust in me. I was the fastest of the three Genoa Racing drivers during the whole week end. I want to thank all team members for their excellent job and I hope we will finally take the big win in New Jersey next month. Ultimately I would like to thank all my partners and sponsors for their support.”
