The Paladin Motorsports team concluded their second open-test on Tuesday in preparation for the 2008 Cooper Tires Presents the Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda season. The test, which took place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, was a productive one for the Corona, California based team and driver Adrien Herberts.
The 18-year-old, who signed on for a second season with the team in February, completed 226 laps aboard the #45 Keller Williams Mazda-Cosworth/Swift 016.a/Cooper car for a total of nearly 506 miles, while the team accumulated important data that will help them get ready for the upcoming races.
"We accomplished a lot over the last two days," said Paladin Motorsports owner Reza Honarvar. "We were able to try many different things that will help us over the course of the season. Adrien did a great job once again. However, we still need to find some extra speed but I am not worried, I know we will get there before the first race in Long Beach, we have a great group of guys who are working really hard."
Herberts from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia stopped the clocks with a fastest lap of 1:18.594 (102.512 mph) on the first day of testing and improved his time by over a second on day two when he registered a lap of 1:17.101 (104.497 mph) in the morning session.
"It was a little tough," expressed Herberts who competed in 10 Atlantic races with Paladin Motorsports in 2007. "Coming into this year we have pretty high expectations. We made some big improvements but we still have a bit more to go. As far as the test goes we accomplished what we wanted to do which is learn but I think we wanted to get a bit more speed before the day was done. But overall it was good and it will help us with our base set up for the race in May."
The second-year Atlantic team now plans to test at least one more time in final preparation for the start of the 35th Anniversary year of the Atlantic Championship which gets underway at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 20.
