The first contest of the day was Dynamic Apnea with Monofin, and right from the beginning we realised that we were in for a treat. All the athletes gave their best, one after another moving the bar further and further for each other.
Then Mirela Kardasevic dived, and had a spectacular performance. We all knew she did something special, and it was confirmed that she is a new World Record holder with 256,08 meters to her name. She was elated and celebrating with her teammates, but it was a short one.
Just when you thought this was an ultimate show for today, a young Polish athlete jumped in the pool and decided to write her name in the history books of freediving. Magdalena Solich-Talanda dived unbelievable 265,70 meters, leaving all others far behind.
In the Men's competition, Guillaume Bourdila from France took the number one position and set a new National Record with 278.20 meters. His countryman Olivier Elu managed to get to third place and a bronze medal. Mikhail Briantcev from RUF came in second and claimed yet another medal for his national team.
Afternoon session of Endurance 8x50, was the last discipline of this edition of the World Championships. Athletes from RUF dominated the entire event and added four more medals to their tool.
Evgeniia Kozyreva and Anastasiia Zhatkina won the gold and bronze medal respectively. Evgeniia's final result was 4:37,71, while Anastasiia finished her race in 4:54,24. Between them we had Italian, Erica Barbon who finished in second place, less than a second behind Kozyreva 4:38,43.
Medal distribution was exactly the same in the Men's contest. Gold and bronze for RUF, silver for Italy. Denis Arshanov had a great run, finishing the course in 3:45,09. He was the only one who accomplished this feat in less than 4 minutes. Angelo Sciacca was near, but didn't manage to break that mark, with the final result of 4:02,47. Of course, last but not least, Stepan Vorobyev came in third, with the final time 4:20,24.
Now, it is time to say goodbye and draw a curtain on this amazing show. Farewell until next time.
