Poland prepares its return

25.04.2012: After a series of South American presentations, the Dakar World Tour headed to Poland. Whether favourites in their categories

After a series of South American presentations, the Dakar World Tour headed to Poland. Whether favourites in their categories or simply motivated by the expedition between Lima and Santiago, everyone present set their sights on the start of the 2013 edition.

There were plenty of thrills felt last January in Warsaw, Krakov, Poznan or Gdansk and the memories were still very fresh in the Polish capital, where the organisers met some of the competitors who shone on the Dakar, as well as the media to present the outline of the 2013 edition.

Amongst the most attentive listeners were Krzysztof Holowczyc and Jakub Przygonski who have already announced their intention to wipe away the mixed memories of 2012. The Mini driver, who won a stage and led the general standings at the start of the rally, was in the end not able to improve on the 5th place he obtained in 2011.

As for Przygonski, his withdrawal after a fall on the 3rd stage prevented him from capitalising on the confidence built up through finishing 2nd in the world championships. “Even though we hate this event when we find ourselves in difficulty, it has an appeal that still attracts us to come back,” explained the young rider who will again be one of the outsiders for the title next January.

Apart from the two flag-bearers in the discipline, the journalists who came to see the presentation were able to recall the generally positive performance of the Polish competitors, since, at the finish in Lima, 69% of the participants completed the Dakar’s route in its entirety, which is a success rate way above the average.

It is possible that the experience of ski-jumping champion Adam Malyszc, who finished in 37th place on his first participation, may inspire many other celebrities: by coming to obtain information directly from those concerned, the singer Michel Wisniewski and boxer Przemyslaw Saleta, both applying to take part in the quad category, made the first step.
