After earning the Rookie Championship and the title of Vice Champion in the 2011 Formula 3 Italia Series, American Michael Lewis will make the transition to the Formula 3 Euro Series and FIA Formula 3 European Championship this season as he continues his relationship with the PREMA Powerteam.

Even though the 2011 F3 Italia race season concluded for Michael and the Vicenza, Italy-based PREMA Powerteam in October, with Michael earning three wins, six podium appearances and two pole positions, they have remained focused and have not let off the gas while they prepare for Michael's move into F3 Euro.

During the off-season, Michael earned the opportunity to drive a Ferrari Formula 1 car as a result of winning the Rookie title in the Formula 3 Italia Series. Soon after, Michael earned a spot in the prestigious 2012 FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy. Thirty-six drivers from around the world were invited to participate in the Academy, and Michael was one of only 18 drivers who made it to actually be in the Academy for this year, and he was the only American who received an invitation.

As the 2012 F3 Euro race season is about to begin with its opening round at the famous Hockenheim Circuit, in Germany, April 27-29, Michael and the PREMA Powerteam participated in two series' winter tests. At the end of March, Michael and his three F3 Euro PREMA Powerteam teammates had four days of testing in Spain for the first official Formula 3 Euro Series Collective Test sessions for all participating teams and drivers.

"It felt great to get back in the car and to experience firsthand under controlled test conditions with my engineer Cosimo Prusciano and mechanic Francesco to learn all about the new Dallara F312 - Mercedes Benz car," said Michael Lewis.

"We worked methodically all four days on all aspects of building up the speed and confidence so we will be ready for the opening round at Hockenheim. I believe it's to our advantage that I am working with many familiar faces from the PREMA Powerteam who I worked with last season in the Italia F-3 Series."

Another major announcement from Michael Lewis for the 2012 race season is that he will wear the colors of Mercedes-Benz this season as he was selected to join the HWA Mercedes-Benz drivers' group. "It is very much an honor to be selected to be a part of this fantastic program developed by HWA Mercedes-Benz to nurture young driving talent," exclaimed Michael.

"It was very impressive to join in with the other drivers at a recent Mercedes Driver Camp where we were all put through a very rigorous physical and mental training program. I learned a lot and gained enormous respect for this program and I look forward to representing Mercedes this season. I certainly enjoy having the Mercedes power pushing my new Dallara F3 car."

"Having Michael Lewis back with us was a priority after his excellent 2011 season in the Italian F.3 Championship," said René Rosin, PREMA Powerteam principal. "His move to the F3 Euro Series is a logical sequence for him as well as for us. Lewis is the kind of racer who can adapt to new situations pretty easily and I'm sure he won't have any problem in being at the top at European level, too."

The unveiling of the 2012 Dallara F312 with Mercedes-Benz power took place at Valencia, Spain, March 17-19. The livery of the car showcased Michael's primary sponsors, which include K&N Engineering, Eibach Springs, Cometic Gasket, Electric Sunglasses and Klotz Synthetic Lubricants.

"We are very pleased to continue our involvement with Michael this season and look forward to a strong performance in this competitive series," stated Steve Williams, Vice President of K&N Engineering.

"It is great to be back with Michael as he attacks the F3 Euro Series this season. We have been with Michael since he was racing 1/4 midgets in California many years ago," added Oliver Rathlein, Vice President of Marketing at Eibach Springs.

"It is very good to have all the sponsors that were with me last season in Formula 3 Italia back again this season," stated Michael. "With the strong television package offered by Formula 3 Euro Series there is an excellent opportunity for my sponsors to receive the recognition as well as the valuable opportunity to connect with their customers."

The Formula 3 Euro Series has served as a training ground for some of racing's best drivers. Recent graduates include Formula 1 champions Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, along with Formula 1's Nico Rosberg and Romain Grosjean; IndyCar's Ryan Briscoe; and DTM's Bruno Spengler, Jamie Green, Roberto Merhi, Edoardo Mortara; and many others.

Michael Lewis and the PREMA Powerteam had a successful four-day test in Spain and have one more private test session to work with all the drivers before the opening round of the 2012 Formula 3 Euro Series at the end of April. The 2012 season is comprised of 8 race weekend events with three races for each weekend so Michael will have 24 races that comprise the FIA Formula 3 European  Championship and F3 Euro Series.

Michael Lewis' 2012 sponsor lineup includes Eibach Springs, K&N Engineering, SKF, GoPro, Electric Sunglasses, Klotz Synthetic Lubricants, Cometic Gasket, Bell Helmets, Braille Battery, Subè Sports and Calico Coatings.
