With the 2022 season concluded, everyone is looking forward to 2023, when the FIA EHRC will begin in March with the 71st Rally Costa Brava in Spain.

The 2023 FIA EHRC Sporting Regulations have been released and here are some of the changes for next season -




3.1 ATTRIBUTION OF CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS



Points will be allocated to each classified Driver and Co-driver in the final results.


•    All starters (Drivers and Co-drivers) in each category will receive 2 points (previously 1 point)

•    All classified Driver and Co-driver in each category will receive 2 points (previously 1)




Additionally in Category 1:



•    3 points for the crew of any car of Period F having started. (previously 1 point)

•    4 points for the crew of any car of Period E having started. (previously 2 points)

•    5 points for the crew of any car of Period D having started. (previously 3 points)



The definition of Period D, E and F can be found in Article 3 of Appendix K.


In another change for 2023, only category points will be allocated to the classified Drivers and Co-drivers in each category, there will be no points for classes.  




The top 15 classified Drivers and Co-Drivers in each category will now be awarded championship points as follows:



1st overall       30 points (previously 8)
2nd overall      24 points (previously 6)
3rd overall       21 points (previously 5)
4th overall       19 points (previously 4)
5th overall       17 points (previously 3)
6th overall       15 points (previously 2)
7th overall       13 points (previously 1)
8th overall     11 points
9th overall     9 points
10th overall   7 points
11th overall   5 points
12th overall   4 points
13th overall   3 points
14th overall   2 points
15th overall   1 point




4.2 PARTICIPATION


Drivers wishing to score points in the Championship must register with the FIA Historic Department before the closing date for entries of the first rally entered for the purpose of scoring points by submitting a Championship entry form, which will be available soon on the FIA website.


Co-drivers will automatically score points when participating with a Driver registered in the Championship.  Co-drivers no longer have to register separately as in previous seasons,




12.1 CATEGORIES AND CLASSES OF CARS


The categories will remain unaltered in 2023, with Category 1 for cars built before 1969, Category 2 for cars between 1970 and 1975, Category 3 for cars between 1976 and 1981 and Category 4 for cars built between 1982 and 1990.




However, the classes in each category have been simplified.



CATEGORY 1

•    All cars built before 1962 will be classed in A1 (previously A1, A2 and A3)
•    All cars built between 1962 and 1969 will be classed in B1 (previously B1 to B5)




CATEGORY 2

•    All cars with an engine capacity up to 2000cm³ will now be in class C1 (previously C0 to C3)
•    All cars with an engine capacity over 2000cm³ will now be in class C2 (previously C4)





CATEGORY 3

•    All cars with an engine capacity up to 2000cm³ will now be in class D1 (previously D0 to D3)
•    All cars with an engine capacity over 2000cm³ will now be in class D2 (previously D4)



CATEGORY 4


•    All Group A cars with an engine capacity up to 2000cm³ will now be in class E2 (previously E1 to E3)
•    All Group A cars with an engine capacity over 2000cm³ will now be in class E3 (previously E4)
•    All Group B cars with an engine capacity up to 1600cm³ will now be in class E2 (previously E5)
•    All Group B cars with an engine capacity over 1600cm³ will now be in class E3 (previously E6)
•    All Group N cars will now be in class E1 (previously E7 and E8)

48.4 DELAYED START THROUGH FAULT OF CREW



•         Penalties for missing the start of a stage have been simplified with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd offence penalties for a delayed start being replaced by a standard 1-minute penalty per 1 minute or fraction of a minute. (48.4.1)


•         Any car not starting within 20 seconds of the start signal will also be considered as retired. (48.4.3)



54.2 PENALTIES FOR RE-START AFTER RETIREMENT


•    For crews re-starting the rally after retirement, a penalty of 10 minutes will be applied for any missed stage, to be added to the drivers’ class fastest time.
