FIA GT – Round 10: SAN LUIS - Argentina

For the final round of the FIA GT season the championship travelled to the other side of the world, more specifically to San Luis in Argentina. For ProSpeed Competition the race held on the brand new and impressive Argentinean circuit did not come up to expectations, with a retirement for Westbrook – Collard and a fifth place for Forsten and Palttala.

Notwithstanding that Richard Westbrook finished in third place for the drivers in the overall championship, as did ProSpeed Competition ending the season in an excellent third place in the teams’ championship. Two bronze medals for the Porsche team located in Liege, Belgium.

Qualifying sessions were a real thriller and once again the Belgian team came up trumps at the right moment. The set-up of both Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs was perfect, with Richard Westbrook and Markus Palttala respectively qualifying in second and fourth place.

Richard Westbrook:

"The session was pretty intense, I clocked up the fastest lap time, but a little later the Argentinean Mattias Russo went under my time, after which the team advised me that I was back on P1 and then finally Russo came out on top. He was really good and I threw everything at it to improve on his fastest time, but with our additional 35 kilos it was impossible to stay ahead of the Ferrari on this circuit. Markus also did very well, with a fourth place and this really proves that the team are providing excellent work."

The race held under a clear blue sky and in front of over packed grandstands started off well for ProSpeed Competition. Both Manu Collard and Markus Palttala took an excellent start and both cars were up amongst the top-3 during the opening laps.

"Unfortunately things turned sour for me", Manu Collard commented somewhat later in the pit box. "I went off the ideal line in a fast bend which I usually take in the same way, and it was over and out for me. There are no run off zones on this track and the slightest mistake is unrelentingly punished. I’m disappointed not only for myself, but especially for the team, because with a good result from Richard and me we could well have finished in second place in the championship. Mea culpa..."

Markus Palttala produced a strong stint and came into the pitlane in second spot. He handed over the wheel to Mikael Forsten who also drove a faultless stint. The Finns

finally finished a mere few seconds from a place on the podium, ending as fifth in GT2. "Once again we have proven that we are both fast and efficient, but we experienced bad luck today as also earlier in the season", is how Rudi Penders summed up matters. "It goes without saying that two third places in FIA GT, both with the drivers and the teams, is a great result, taking into consideration it is a first season, but so much more could have been achieved. This must be and will be an additional motivation for next season.

All the hard work put in by all members of the team must be followed up with as outcome even better results."

ProSpeed will be closing off the season in a fortnight’s time in Dubai, with the final FIA GT3-meeting of the season.
