The Finnish track of Tuuri hosted today the first two free practices of the 2013 FIM Snowcross World Championship. The 36 riders entered for the event were divided in two groups and it was Peter Narsa and Adam Renheim who obtained the best lap times of their respective groups.

The best Finnish riders were Risto Juujärvi and Viktor Herten. After the two free practice sessions all the riders were presented to the crowd that was waiting for them at the main hall of the Veljekset Keskinen Oy Shopping Village.

Runner up of the 2012 FIM Snowcross World Championship Peter Narsa clocked the fastest lap on lap ten of the second practice and he was the only one who recorded a time under 34 seconds. Consequently, it has been confirmed today that the Swedish rider might obtain his maiden World Title tomorrow in the Finnish track.

The second fastest rider in the second free practice was his compatriot Marcus Ogemar-Hellgren and the three-times World Champion Peter Eriksson, who has announced today that tomorrow’s race might be one of the last ones before his retirement, obtained the third best lap time after finishing second of Group B behind Adam Renheim, who is one of the favourites to be fighting for the title tomorrow.

Home rider Aki Pihlaja, who was fifth last year, injured his hand in December and today he has admitted that it is going to be hard for him to be fighting for the top positions. However, his compatriot Viktor Herten, current European Snowcross Champion, is ready to delight the Finnish crowd that will gather tomorrow at the track in Tuuri.

The day will start tomorrow with the third Free Practice and it will be followed up by the two qualifying races that will define the top twenty riders that will enter the main event. The best of the three heats will be proclaimed the 2013 FIM Snowcross World Champion.

The big surprise of the weekend has been the unexpected visit of the WRC Finnish driver Jari-Matti LATVALA who came to see the track and he actually made a few laps on a snowmobile.

Latvala, who was third last year in the WRC Championship, is from Tuuri and he admitted that he did not want to miss the opportunity to visit the 2013 FIM Snowcross World Championship. Click here to watch what he thinks of the track and how fast he is on a Snowmobile.
