2008 FIM SuperMoto World Championship
After round four of the FIM SuperMoto World Championship at Olbia, Sardinia (Italy), hosting the GP of Sardegna on July 13, here are the updated season statistics.
S1
After grasping his second consecutive Superpole on Sunday morning DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Ivan Lazzarini was on route to his second consecutive win after Spain; the Italian won the opening moto but he faced a strong opposition in the final heat as team mate Thierry Van Den Bosch won and took the overall.
Lazzarini was on the podium for the second time this season as he took second from VDB, who won his third GP out of these first four meetings.
Series leader Bernd Hiemer of KTM Italia Miglio kept up the good work by rounding off the podium; the German is the only rider who never missed the rostrum so far in the season and this is a great confidence booster for him entering his "close to home" event in Greinbach, Austria, this weekend.
With Lazzarini and Van Den Bosch having taken victory in the latest four heats, Aprilia now leads the manufacturers’ race wins standings with a total of six strikes, four more than KTM-all by Hiemer.

TM Factory Racing’s Davide Gozzini took his first clean sweep of the 2008 season by winning the Superpole and the two GP heats in the Sardinian heat. Though taking his third GP win of the season was not enough for Gozzini to come back to the top of the S2 standings.
Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre is holding the red plate since Spain, which ended up to be his best weekend so far courtesy of two heat wins and the Superpole. The 2007 S1 World Champion continued his podium streak with a second overall in Olbia as he ended runner up twice.
DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Massimo Beltrami was the real surprise of the weekend. The Italian SuperMoto veteran took his first podium since he joined the Aprilia squad at the end of last season; 2007 was also the year of his latest podium which came at the Bulgarian GP in Pleven –third overall.
TM and Husqvarna are now level in points in the manufacturers’ race wins standings courtesy of Gozzini’s latest wins.

The series will be back for the final part of the season starting in Greinbach, Austria, on August 24. The event will mark the SuperMoto World Championship’s comeback to the country after its latest appearance at Melk in 2006.
