Formula 4 SEA Cars Arrive Countdown Begins

28.06.2016: The countdown to the inaugural 2016 Formula 4 South East Asia Championship

The countdown to the inaugural 2016 Formula 4 South East Asia Championship (F4SEA) officially commenced with the arrival of the 21 FIA F4 homologated racecars.

In preparation for the first championship round on 6 and 7 August, the much-anticipated first collective tests will commence at the Sepang International Circuit on 29 and 30 June.

The new Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, certified by the FIA, is designed to develop Asia’s motorsport talent through a cost-effective programme. It is the first step on the FIA’s streamlined ladder to developing professional careers in the sport.

Peter Thompson, Chairman Triple A: “As the primary springboard for drivers to progress from go-karts to single-seater formula racing, the F4SEA championship is the only FIA-certified transition platform for Asian talent.

Three years of planning have gone into this project and over the last six months intensive marketing has promoted the championship globally.

F4SEA is not only about developing drivers, it is also about progressing Malaysian engineering talent. Our Malaysian technicians have been training in France and it’s fantastic to see them back here in Sepang, with the new cars which they have proudly assembled from the ground up."

Firhat Mokhzani, Managing Director Triple A: “All the months of hard work and meticulous coordination with our chassis and engine partners have culminated in the arrival of the cars this weekend.

This is a huge milestone for Asian motorsport - in fact it is the most important development ever for Asian drivers. We are all looking forward to the collective test this week.”

One of the twelve FIA global F4 programmes, the F4SEA championship will kick off its inaugural season with the first event in Sepang this August with a 30-race programme costing €100,000.

This fee includes the provision of race cars, race engineering, technical support, driver coaching, tyres and all consumables.
