Formula Renault 2.0 - Oschersleben – Presentation- Ammermüller at home

01.08.2005: Formula Renault 2.0 - Oschersleben – Presentation- Ammermüller at home

With five victories from eight races and a lead of more than fifty points, Michael Ammermüller (Jenzer Motorsport) is indisputably the man in charge of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. At Oschersleben, the German driver will be on home ground. This should make him just that bit more determined to increase his lead over his closest rivals, Yann Clairay (SG Formula) and Kamui Kobayashi (Prema Power Team).

Nothing seems to be able to stop Michael Ammermüller this season. Not satisfied with being the only driver to have scored points in every one of eight races, the Jenzer Motorsport driver also has five pole positions, five victories and three lap records to his name. His tally speaks for itself: he has scored 110 points from a possible total of 136! He has a lead of 53 points over Yann Clairay , which compares favourably to 34 points available every weekend.

Having said that, Ammermüller's rivals are not about to throw in the towel. "We are only halfway through the season and the Championship has plenty of life left in it yet. Give me the slightest chance and I'll defend my corner!" is the united response. However, with one victory each to their name, there is no room for error for Yann Clairay (SG Formula), Kamui Kobayashi (Prema Power Team) and Adrian Zaugg (Jenzer Motorsport). Even if they are perfect, they will also have to rely on the German running into some bad luck if they are to get back on the pace.

With the field still pretty tightly packed, the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 title could also go to a new driver, such as Carlo Van Dam (SG Formula), Junior Strous (Mr. Glow Motorsport) or Bertrand Baguette (Epsilon Euskadi), who have already had a taste of what it is like to be on the podium.

But another threat could come from those competing in the German Formula Renault 2.0 Championship. From this point of view, the local Motopark Oschersleben team – with the reigning Champion Scott Speed – should be able to count on a warm reception this weekend. Having been somewhat quiet since the start of the season, Filipe Albuquerque and Teemu Nyman showed their potential in Bilbao by taking their first points. Can we expect more of the same with their team on home soil?

The German Championship itself got underway on this circuit back in April. Michael Aleshin (Lukoil Racing Team) and Kasper Andersen (Team Formula Sport) were the winners then. Will they be able to find their way back to winning form in the Eurocup?

In total, nine drivers will be competing on both fronts this weekend, taking part in the Eurocup and the German Championship. The likes of Atte Mustonen (Koiranen Bros Motorsport) or Dima Raikhlin (SL Formula Racing) may also try to take the opportunity to impress.

Standings after Bilbao: 1. M. Ammermüller (Jenzer) 110 pts – 2. Y. Clairay (SG) 57 pts – 3. K. Kobayashi (Prema) 49 pts – 4. A. Zaugg (Jenzer) 45 pts – 5. C. Van Dam (SG) 41 pts – 6. R. Grosjean (SG) 28 pts – 7. Jr. Strous (Mr. Glow) 26 pts – 8. R. Kofler (Cram) 25 pts – 9. B. Baguette (Epsilon) 25 pts – 10. J. D'Ambrosio (Euronova) 22 pts…
