Les GP2 Asie Séries partagent le paddock de Sepang avec la Formule 1
Le weekend prochain aura lieu l'avant-dernier rendez-vous des GP2 Asie Séries. En Malaisie, l'équipe portugaise fera confiance à la même paire de pilotes que depuis le début de la saison. Yelmer Buurman et Fabrizio Crestani ont pour mission de poursuivre le développement entamé lors des courses précédentes et de permettre à Ocean Racing Technology de prouver qu'elle a constamment progressé depuis son arrivée sur la scène de l'antichambre de la Formule 1.
Pour Tiago Monteiro, l'arrivée dans le top 10 au Qatar est un bon indice des progrès enregistrés par l'équipe et une bonne plateforme pour poursuivre l'ascension en Malaisie, sur le très sélectif circuit de Sepang. "Les GP2 Asie Séries se sont révélées être très importantes pour l'équipe, pour définir un bon rythme de travail et trouver une cohésion. Il est important de rappeler que nous n'avons intégré le championnat qu'à son deuxième meeting et que la seconde course de Dubaï a été annulée à cause d'inondations, ce qui fait que nous n'avons pas énormément roulé depuis la création de l'équipe.
Sepang sera donc notre troisième weekend de course et notre objectif est de trouver un bon rythme et de tester des solutions qui pourraient nous être profitables pour les GP2 Main Séries. Marquer des points en Malaisie serait une preuve que nous sommes sur la bonne voie. Mais après la Malaisie il faudra enchaîner sur Bahreïn, qui est la dernière course du championnat. Les occasions d'améliorer l'auto dans un laps de temps aussi court sont donc très faibles" rappelle Tiago Monteiro.
En parallèle avec le travail spécifique au GP2 Asie Séries, Ocean Racing Technology poursuit sa préparation pour les GP2 Main Séries. Lors des trois derniers jours d'essais de l'intersaison, à Barcelone, l'équipe de Tiago Monteiro et José Guedes a toujours été parmi les plus performantes, avec les meilleurs temps au tour d'Álvaro Parente et la montée en puissance de Karun Chandhok.
Les essais libres et la qualification des courses de GP2 Asie Séries auront lieu sur le circuit de Sepang le vendredi 3 avril. La première épreuve, qui se courra sur 180km (33 tours) se disputera le 4 avril, la seconde (120km, 22 tours) le lendemain dimanche 5 avril. Les deux courses seront retransmises par la chaîne Eurosport 2 en différé à 9H45.
