Electric failure thwarts Super Nova home race

20.06.2009: GP2 Series Round 4 Great Britain - Silverstone Race 1 Luca Filippi – Car 14 – P14 Championship Standing: 13 pts / 8th

GP2 Series Round 4 Great Britain - Silverstone Race 1

Luca Filippi – Car 14 – P14
Championship Standing: 13 pts / 8th

“We had a good start and a good first lap, gaining eight positions. I found good lines to avoid the incidents that happened on lap one. We’d made a car and strategy to look after the tyres & pitted early to get an advantage. But we lost places in the pit stop which is a real shame. Silverstone is not an easy place to overtake, so again we need a good start tomorrow, and if it rains all the better!”

Javier Villa – Car 15 - DNF
Championship Standing:  7 pts / 11th

“You know, the start was good, we got up to P4, pushing all the time. We pitted quite late and lost a few places, but still we were P8. This is the second engine this weekend and now we have problems with the electrics, it’s very frustrating! The tyres were good for the last part of the race, and if we could have got a point or two today and tomorrow it would have been great. But as it is I start P21 which will not be easy. But you never know what can happen!”

David Sears – Team Principal

“Javier Villa made a fantastic opening lap, running in fourth place, but as tyre wear was marginal the team decided to run half way distance, before bringing him in, but unfortunately all that had stopped earlier had an advantage, and we lost places.
Luca Filippi’s weekend continued from bad from worse, he too lost places in the pit stop and ended up fourteenth. It’ll be a hard race tomorrow starting near the back, weather can play a big part too, so let’s see!”

Dark rain clouds held off over Northamptonshire as GP2 Race One got underway this afternoon at Silverstone circuit.

Dry conditions, did not detract from the eventful race that saw DAM’s driver Jerome D’ Ambrosio fail to move from the grid at the green lights, initiating a series of unrelated incidents in the opening lap. Javier Villa gained four places early on sitting in a strong fourth, quickest in the first sector of the track. He pitted on lap fifteen, and came out eighth, but his efforts went unrewarded when just five laps shy of the finish, electrics failed & ruined his race, and the chance of any points.

Starting from eighteenth, Italian racer Luca Filippi cleared an impressive eight positions before pitting two laps before his team mate. He re-entered the race having lost several places, finishing fourteenth overall & concluding a frustrating home race for the Super Nova Team today.

The team now face working on resolving these issues in preparation for the early race tomorrow at 0930hrs.
