The final 3-day pre-season testing session concluded today at the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona, Spain, the very track that will host the GP2 season opener, & support Formula One when they return to Europe in May.
Having worked together during the winter GP2 Asia Series, Super Nova & Javier Villa have built up a strong working relationship. Their hard work paid off this afternoon, as the Spanish racer signed the best overall lap time of the week with 1:26.696. Speaking today Javier said “We have had a very good day today! The first two days were hard work. But the car is very, very good and ready for qualifying. For me, after Paul Ricard everything has gone really well. The race will be difficult, but we know we can be at the front, so we just need to continue on the way we have started!”
Also rejoining the folds of the team is 23yr old Luca Filippi. After fine tuning the 600bhp machine, the Italian made his presence felt, completing a total of 140laps over the course of the three days, setting fourth quickest lap overall.
“First of all” Luca said this afternoon “I’d like to say I am very happy! We came here, and have shown we have both the performance and power needed for the race. We have tried many things, and in the end we got the best set up. My sectors times were good, and we have two cars in good positions! The racing this year is going to be tough, but I am confident we can do a great job. The boys in the team work really hard, and we work well together, so I am very happy to be back with Super Nova!”
A satisfied Team Principal, David Sears said today “This test has been very important, before the first race here soon. To come out on top as a team, makes us all very happy! Both drivers did a fantastic job, with Javier Villa quickest on the final day, Luca ending up fourth. Both drivers had more consecutive quick laps than anyone else, and on the long runs, the quickest race pace. The team are all looking forward to the season ahead.”
First race of the season: Barcelona, Spain 10th May.
