My Team Qi-Meritus.Mahara heads home for the fifth round of the GP2 Asia season in Malaysia with high hopes after their driver line-up of Portugal's Alvaro Parente and Italy's Marco Bonanomi showed so much speed and potential in the last outing in Qatar.
The 24-year-old Porto-born Parente has just returned from a testing session for the European GP2 season in Barcelona, topping both sessions for Ocean Racing Technology. Parente and team mate Marco Bonanomi are eager to get back behind the wheel for the fifth round of the GP2 Asia Series in Malaysia.
Parente commented, "I am very pleased to have the opportunity to drive again for My Team Qi-Meritus.Mahara at their home race. I last drove on the Malaysian track in 2005 in the first season of A1GP. I have a record to set straight after a flat tyre ruined my strong race then. After Doha I felt good physically even if I could feel in my bones that I had not driven for a long time. In Barcelona, my results showed how great I was feeling to be back behind the wheel.
The Malaysian track conditions require a driver to be very fit in order to deal with both the humidity and the very technical track. It is so interesting: the track has a bit of everything: fast, slow and medium speed corners. My goal is to give my best at all times and work hard ahead of the race to set up the car as well as possible so we have a great result for My Qi-Meritus.Mahara at home! In this race I want to fight for the front of the grid and for the win!"
Bonanomi added: "I will travel to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to get over the jet lag and time difference. Since Doha I have tested for F2 teams and done a lot of training to stay sharp. Hot temperatures and humidity are the biggest enemies for a driver in Malaysia. I have experienced tough races on this track and lost more than 2kg during a race! My goal for the team's home race is to be on the podium in both races. I know that it will be hard work to do it but My Qi-Meritus.Mahara hasve already shown that we have strong potential, and this time in Sepang, it is the right time to grab the top results! At this point, we can't fight for the championship anymore, but I can focus on winning and bringing home the largest number of points for My Qi-Meritus.Mahara in the last two rounds. The team has trust in me, and I want to repay their faith."
Peter Thompson, team founder said: "We have a strong team and a great driver lineup between Alvaro Parente and Marco Bonanomi. Both drivers are hungry for success and have shown that they have a lot of potential. We will be fighting hard to turn this potential into results and score points in our home race, where I know we can count on the amazing support of our fans."

Both drivers' experience are extremely valuable to the team; they are both hungry to turn our potential into points this weekend."
The fifth round of the GP2 Asia 2008-2009 season will take place at Sepang International Circuit on 4-5 April 2009.
