Der Lichtenauer Dominik Farnbacher konnte beim 2. Lauf der Grand Am GT Rolex Series am 04. März 2007 in Mexiko City mit seinem Team Farnbacher Loles einen hervorragenden zweiten Platz erzielen.

Zusammen mit seinem Teamkollegen Leh Keen ging er in einem Porsche GT3 Cup an den Start des 2,5 Meilen langen „Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez" in 2.200 Meter Höhe von Mexiko City.

"Von Beginn an, klappte alles hervorragend auf der ehemaligen Formel 1-Rennstrecke", so der 22-jährige Dominik Farnbacher. „Im Qualifying stellten wir den Porsche auf Platz zwei und wollten um den Sieg mitfahren."

Direkt beim Start konnte Leh Keen dann den führenden Mazda RX-8 mit den Piloten Tremblay/Ham/Haskell direkt in der ersten Kurve überholen und davonziehen. Leider beanspruchte dies zu stark die Reifen und wirkte sich am Ende seines Stints stark auf die Rundenzeiten aus. Porsche Carrera Cup-Meister Dirk Werner, der im Schwesterauto von Farnbacher-Loles mit Bryce Miller unterwegs war, konnte ihn noch überholen.

Zur Halbzeit der 100 Runden kam es zum geplanten Boxenstopp und durch die Schnelligkeit der Mannschaft um Teamchef Horst Farnbacher, konnte Dominik Farnbacher früher aus der Box raus und lag hinter dem nun erstplatzierten Mazda RX-8 auf Platz zwei.

„Dirk Werner hatte Probleme beim Reifenwechsel und bei uns ging alles optimal", so Dominik anschließend. „An einen Sieg war aber leider nicht mehr zu denken, da der Mazda über 22 Sekunden vor uns lag...!"

Zwar fuhr der Lichtenauer die deutlich schnellsten Rundenzeiten aber mehr als Platz zwei gelang nicht mehr! „Der Mazda RX-8 soll mit dem Wankel-Motor in der dünnen Luft von 2.200 Meter in Mexiko City auch über Vorteile gegenüber den anderen Motoren verfügen, wie die Ingenieure meinten", stellte Dominik Farnbacher nach dem Rennen fest."

Stolz war der Youngster auch auf das Team und die gezeigten Leistungen: „Das war schon klasse, was die Crew geleistet hat. Wir hatten keine Probleme im zweieinhalb Stunden-Rennen."
