Gregoire Munster succeeds himself as Belgian Champion in the Junior BRC

For the second time in a row Grégoire Munster and Louis Louka (Opel Adam R2) are champions in the Juniors. Earlier this season the twenty-year-old Munster was the best Junior in the rallies of Haspengouw, Spa, Wallonia and the Sezoensrally. With still two rallies on the books Gilles Pyck, the nearest rival, could in the best-case scenario still come alongside but even then, based on the number of victories among the youngsters, Munster still clinches the title.

Last weekend Grégoire Munster competed in the Omloop of Vlaanderen as Patrick Snijers’ co-driver, and as such did not score any points in the Junior BRC. Last Monday father and son Munster made a calculation whereby it was apparent that Grégoire Munster and Louis Louka are assured of a second consecutive title.

“Even should Gilles Pyck win both rallies and put in the fastest times in all special stages, he will still not be champion. In that case we would both end with 92 points. Based on the number of victories the title becomes ours. I have four whereas he would finish with three.”

Consequently, Grégoire Munster and Louis Louka are champions.

“That makes me extremely happy” a smiling Grégoire Munster commented. “After our title of last year this is the confirmation. That is very important. This year we won four events. We did not make it to the finish in the TAC rally, but did score a point because we drove one fastest time.

That one point now appears to be extremely important. I would like to thank everyone who in one way or another contributed to this success. A special thanks to Opel Belgium and my co-driver Louis Louka. I still do not know what the rest of the season will bring us.

Beginning of October, we will be at the start of the Erzgebirge rally, the penultimate round of the German Championship of the Opel Adam Cup. Last year I finished in second spot in the Opel Adam Cup. With still two rallies to go we are leading. I really want to win the Opel Adam Cup this year.”

Opel boasts a long tradition in motorsport.

One of the pillars of the German make is that they have, both in the past as also to this day, supported young drivers at the start of their career. “In a distant past this was the case with Bruno Thiry and Freddy Loix, allowing them to make their debut in the World Championship” Wim Verloy, Communications Manager of Opel Belgium stated.

“In recent years we did this with Grégoire Munster. He is a young, talented driver who has a great future ahead of him and is supported by a professional team. We are delighted that Grégoire Munster and Louis Louka are representing us in the rally world. The fact that they have claimed the Belgian championship with the Juniors two years in succession makes us exceptionally proud. Last year’s performances ensured that this year he was able to join the official Opel Motorsport team.

Munster’s third segment is located in the Opel Adam Cup where Grégoire, with two rallies still to go, is leading the rankings. We truly hope that there also he will succeed. Opel is phasing out the Adam story and focussing on the future. Several weeks ago, we were the first manufacturer to introduce the electric rally car. The Opel Corsa-e is an absolute world premiere. Next year the German motorsport federation ADAC and Opel are setting up a Cup in Germany.”
