Intercontinental Trophy Cups (ITC) series officials are expressing excitement and confidence following the series’ first official test this past week at Virginian International Raceway. The test was a prelude to the opening round for the National Auto Sport Association (NASA), sanctioning body of the ITC series.
Mike Bavaro and the Bodymotion Racing team arrived at VIR with four cars while Isringhausen Motorsports brought cars for Geoff Isringhausen and teammate Skip Cloar. John Teece of BGB Motorsports also attended the test with a series spec Porsche Cayman. The SCCA Pro Racing and GRAND-AM experienced drivers completed a full day on the twisting 3.27 mile race course in the hills of southern Virginia. On hand to view the test was Ryan Eversley who regularly races in GRAND-AM’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
The Intercontinental Trophy Cups series is the brainchild of Dougie Livingston and the test last week was the culmination of efforts begun in the middle of the 2010 racing season.
“We have all worked tirelessly to secure a working partnership with NASA and its regional directors along with quality suppliers to create the vision of ITC”, stated Livingston during a break. “It was truly awesome to be here with this field of competitors at VIR. It was a lot of work to get here but we have a incredible support behind us from both competitors and suppliers.”
Livingston continued, “It is great to see that teams and drivers are really starting to understand what we are creating here with ITC. We look forward to continued growth as the series gets on track with a full race schedule starting in just a few weeks.”
The opening round of the Intercontinental Trophy Cup series takes place at New Jersey Motorsports Park starting on April 15th with NASA. The New Jersey race includes three full days of on-track action with testing on Friday and races on both Saturday and Sunday to round out the weekend.
