The 18th edition of the Dubai International Jewellery Week 2013 at the Dubai World Trade Centre welcomed more than 23,964 visitors from 99 countries and 367 exhibitors from around the world offering countless new launches and a dazzling array of jewellery designs.

Millions of dirhams in sales, confirmed orders and strategic business opportunities during the exhibition were reported by both trade and retail exhibitors.  Sales were further boosted by a number of buyers and wholesalers from countries such as Albania, Bahrain, Kosovo, Kuwait, Macedonia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Turkey who also visited the show.

Consumers, trade visitors and buyers conducting brisk business at the show were impressed with the high quality, wide selection, fine design, and price competitiveness of products available at the event.  Some of their selected products were precious metals, diamonds and other high quality gemstones.

In response to the robust attendance and interest from the industry, Dubai World Trade Centre has launched a new event, the Dubai International Jewellery Trade, in April 2014. Designed for the jewellery trade community in Dubai, the three-day B2B event will provide manufacturers and wholesalers a platform to network with buyers from large jewellery consumer markets in the Gulf region as well as India, Russia and CIS countries.

The inaugural event will also provide a unique opportunity to all local and international brands seeking presence in the region.

According a 2013 PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report, The Direct Economic Impact of Gold, commissioned by the World Gold Council, the impact of gold jewellery consumption in the UAE was estimated at USD2.5 billion, the fifth highest in the world after China, India, United States and Russia.

The report further ranks the UAE as one of the top 13 gold consuming countries, with its gold jewellery consumption amounting to 50 tonnes indicating the industry’s strong performance that has further strengthened the UAE’s position in the global jewellery market.

The 18th edition of Dubai International Jewellery Week gathered exhibitors from around the world who together brought the world’s most exquisite and finest jewellery and gems.  Independent retailer La Marquise was one of the many exhibitors who described the Dubai International Jewellery Week as an event not to miss.

“We have had a fabulous turnout this year at the show.  I think the Dubai jewellery market on the whole is growing, which is also one of the reasons why we have had so many customers at our stand,” said Shankar Ramanathan, Head of Marketing, La Marquise.

Michelle Buxani Panjwani of Hong Kong-based diamond specialists, Temptations, commented:
“This was our first time exhibiting in the UAE but definitely not the last.  We have exceeded our expectations in terms of our targeted sales for the show and sold jewellery worth more than USD2 million to buyers from Dubai, India, Kazakhstan and Russia.

We are delighted with the positive response and are thinking about opening an office in Dubai to cater to our customers in the UAE and the Middle East.”

Ghazi Bin Talib, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Ghazi Bin Talib Jewellery in Saudi Arabia purchased diamond and gold jewellery worth USD500,000 at the event, while Ismail M. Adam Al-Saigh, a top level buyer from Oman and Managing Director of Adam’s Sons Jewellery, purchased products worth more than USD220,000 and loose diamonds worth USD20,000 at the four-day consumer and trade event.

“We have sold jewellery worth more than AED300,000 this week with our bridal sets being the most popular.  Apart from customers from the UAE and GCC, we have also had trade inquiries from Russian and Turkish customers.  We are very pleased with the show and look forward to participating in the 2014 edition, said Ramanathan”

“This was the first time I visited the Dubai International Jewellery Week and I have to say that it was one of the most well organised shows I have visited,” said Al-Saigh.  “I was very impressed with the quality of exhibitors and products at the show.

It was the ideal venue to meet our existing Dubai-based dealers as well as make new contacts with companies from the international market.  We are glad we attended the 2013 edition and look forward to visiting the show next year as well.”

Dubai International Jewellery Week was a treat for the eyes with many amazing pieces showcased at the show including a stunning headpiece representing a bird’s eye view of Palm Jumeirah from India-based jewellers Lucky Stone, and a beautiful gold handcrafted timepiece comprising 541 pieces of natural coloured diamonds created by Dubai-based Dhamani.

Russian jewellery experts Moiseikin also displayed one-of-a kind, intricate pieces studded with gemstones and diamonds, each worth hundreds of thousands of dirhams.

A schedule of seminars hosted by GIA Middle East provided invaluable business advice to thousands of small and medium-sized companies, and designers while the Jewellery Design Awards provided emerging and professional jewellery designers an opportunity to further shine and showcase their talent.

Commenting at the end of the show Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, DWTC, organiser of Dubai International Jewellery Week, said:
“The 2013 edition of the Dubai International Jewellery Week has been a huge success and I am pleased with the overall positive response provided by exhibitors and visitors alike. This show is testament to both the resilience of the UAE retail trade and 367 exhibitors who have pulled out all the stops to put on such a superb showcase.”

The 19th edition of the Dubai International Jewellery Week will take place from 3-6 December 2014 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.  Please check the website for more details and updates www.jewelleryshow.com.
