- Access to diamonds valued US$8 billion at Dubai International Jewellery Week 2014

Specialist seminars to boost city’s status as one of world’s leading international educational hubs for fine jewellery and precious stones

Visitors to next month’s Dubai International Jewellery Week 2014 - running from 3-6 December at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) - will have access to more than a million diamonds worth over US$8 billion (AED29.39 billion).

Members of the public rubbing shoulders with industry experts at the event’s highly-anticipated series of seminars will be given an intriguing insight into the inner workings of RapNet - an online marketplace for certified diamonds and reputable diamond professionals which now ranks as the world's largest diamond trading network.

As of 13 November the home page of RapNet – widely viewed as the primary place to connect with others involved in the diamond trade - listed 1,452,586 diamonds valued at US$8.22 billion and available in 87 countries around the world.

“Whether you’re looking for the industry standard in diamond prices, seeking price and availability information on diamonds, have an interest in buying or wish to sell diamonds to another business, RapNet has the perfect solution,” said Michelle Burns, Marketing Co-ordinator, Rapaport Group, which owns RapNet.

The company will explain why when it joins an impressive line-up of industry leaders taking part in the dedicated seminar programme at the 19th edition of Dubai International Jewellery Week.

With a reputation as a first-class, authoritative service supporting the development of free, fair, efficient, competitive, and profitable diamond and jewellery markets, Rapaport sees the event as the ideal platform to reach a huge regional audience with high disposable income.

“We find it very important to have a presence at Dubai International Jewellery Week,” said Burns. “We have so many members in the Middle East, North Africa and India, and taking part in the seminars, as well as exhibiting at the show, gives us the opportunity to reach out to new and existing clients, as well as demonstrate our exciting features such as the Price List and RapNet.”

Open to members of the public as well as industry professionals, the seminars will bring together leading officials from Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), GIA Middle East, Australian South Sea Pearls, the International Gemological Institute, Solitaire Gemmological Laboratories and the Rapaport Group for discussions which will help reinforce Dubai’s status as one of the world’s leading international educational hubs for fine jewellery, precious stones and metals, diamonds and pearls.

Gillian Dowland, director of Australian South Sea Pearls, said: “We will mainly speak about the pearl industry, giving an overview of the different types of pearls and their origin; but the seminars are all tailored to target the general public rather than just the industry professionals.”

The seminars present the International Gemological Institute with a perfect opportunity to highlight why IGI certification - brings confidence for those buying or selling diamonds, gemstones and jewellery.

“As the largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute worldwide, setting a standard of excellence for industry professionals and consumers around the globe, it is vital for us to have a strong presence at Dubai International Jewellery Week,” said Marissa Martis, Sales & Marketing manager at IGI.

“It’s a great opportunity to connect with the market and bond with customers through the trade show as well as the seminars. We will be delivering seminars on the nature of gemstones along with the importance of jewellery certification.”

The various daily seminars will give visitors valuable opportunities to learn all there is to know about diamonds and jewellery, as the Middle East’s biggest jewellery trade show returns, 25 per cent bigger than last year.

In-line with event’s standing as a platform for global jewellery trade players to source new products from an array of international brands, the popular Hosted Buyer Programme also returns. This will see more than 100 top-level buyers from Russia and CIS countries, Turkey, Macedonia, Kosovo, KSA, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar linking up with exhibitors of their choice for focused one-to-one appointments.

Running alongside the event is the sixth Jewellery Design Awards which recognise amateur and professional designers from across the world for excellence in jewellery design, innovation and creativity.

The awards will see 10 winners crowned in ‘Emerging Designers’ and ‘Professional Group’ categories, including two new accolades for ‘Best Festive-Inspired Jewellery Design’ and ‘Best Futuristic Jewellery Design’. Open to UAE nationals only, the awards for ‘Best Emirati Jewellery Design’ in both categories are expected to be draw entries from established and emerging Emirati jewellery design artisans.
