The Audi A7 from Al Nabooda Automobiles becomes a unique work of art from a young UAE-based calligrapher in an inspiring cultural event

An art commission of a lifetime has been awarded to a young UAE-based artist and featured at the Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition.


Iraqi-born Canadian artist Reem Al Rawi was chosen to design intricate Arabic calligraphy exclusively for an Audi A7 from Al Nabooda Automobiles and painted the letters onto the luxury car in front of shoppers and art lovers at a three-day event in Wafi Mall, Dubai.


Organised by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the 8th edition of the Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition has grown in popularity as the burgeoning arts scene develops in Dubai.  The decorated A7 is now available to view at Wafi Mall until 15 May.


Dr Salah Al Qassim, Advisor of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and head of the organizing committee of the Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition , said: “One of the central objectives of the Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition has been to create newer opportunities for emerging artists and to strengthen patronage for this artform, which is integral to the Arab culture and heritage.


 The support from Al Nabooda Automobiles highlights the support calligraphy and the event has received; it will inspire even more organisations to celebrate the unique value and aesthetics of calligraphy.”


Al Rawi’s designs were inspired by the speed of the car and the all-new Audi A7 quattro was specifically chosen due to its sporty look and TFSI engine.  She said: “This has been such an interesting assignment for me and has challenged my skills considerably.


 Painting directly onto the car was quite daunting initially, but I loved applying the letters in front of the UAE public.  The immediate feedback was really rewarding and helped me to complete my design with pride.”


As part of Al Nabooda Automobiles’ support of the exhibition, the exclusive Audi distributor in Dubai and the Northern Emirates also supplied a fleet of Q7s and A8s to transport VIPs and guests of the event around the city.
