An Interview with Alain Némarq, CEO of Mauboussin.


Happiness or Bust!

In his new offices installed in a townhouse built in 1831, which looks more like a contemporary art gallery than a work place, the ADTF Newsletter editors met with Alain Némarq, who for the past decade has presided over the jewellery house of  Mauboussin, founded in 1827.
 


Alain, what do diamonds represent for you?

"Diamonds are synonymous with happiness and also a token of personal success. Ten years ago, when I took over the company's management, coloured gemstones were in vogue. This year, however, diamond jewellery as well as diamond watches will represent 80 percent of sales."


"Today, Mauboussin has 200 multi-brand, corner points of sale, including 40 directly run shops. It also has an international network with a presence in Luxembourg, Singapore, Bangkok, China, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon...and the opening of a magnificent shop on Rue de la Paix in Paris!" 
 

"By becoming institutionalised, the Mauboussin brand has become strongly associated with the image of diamonds. Pavé-set jewellery represents half of all our sales. The other half is 40 percent stones of less than 0.50 carat, and diamonds of one carat or more represent about 10 percent.


In terms of quality, 80 percent of the diamonds are of H colour. Our clientèle always asks us for a diamond grading report for stones diamonds larger than  0.50 carat, either GIA or HRD Antwerp exclusively."
 

"Indeed, Mauboussin also makes luxury watches and our new collection is a real success. Last year, 3,500 units were sold and we now sell up to 1,500 watches per month. To obtain these very encouraging results, we have a very refined communication plan, and the budget dedicated to advertising represents 13 percent of our turnover."


Before concluding the interview, Alain Nemarcq talked about his second book, which was just released under the title "Le Bonheur Sinon Rien" (in English: Happiness or Bust). Of course, we wish him great success, as a jeweller - and as an author!
 
 
 
   

Antwerp Diamond Night




Visitors at the Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair will be invited to take part in an exceptional evening of entertainment, on Sunday January 31, 2016! 

 
Hand-crafted diamond jewels designed and executed by HRD Award winners and nominees will once again be presented in Antwerp this year, during the opening evening of the Antwerp Diamond Night, January 31, a dazzling event organised by the AWDC.


Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair visitors will have the pleasure of enjoying a show of avant-garde, colourful jewellery creations. These works of art were unveiled in Antwerp last October during the 17th HRD Awards, the renowned international diamond jewellery contest, held in Antwerp every other year. The contest's purpose is to encourage creative design talent to expand the limits of contemporary design of diamond set jewellery.


The HRD Awards enable young jewellery designers to gain international visibility. Their designs and creations promote diamonds and high-end jewellery around the world. Thanks to the sponsorship, support and generosity of diamond companies based in Antwerp and elsewhere in the world, these designers had the opportunity to use top quality diamonds in their creations.


For the 2015 edition of the HRD Awards, HRD Antwerp suggested that to produce dazzling diamond jewellery, the designers find inspiration in their culinary heritage.


 Presented with a record number of 1531 submissions, the jury, made up of diamond industry experts, selected 29 designers who were given the opportunity to craft their two-dimensional designs into pieces of jewellery. The chief sponsor of the 2015 HRD Awards was TESIRO, an internationally renowned Chinese jewellery company.
