Former Ahli Club coach and World Cup winning captain back to promote new Italian Medical Center

Fabio Cannavaro returns to Dubai in another new role tomorrow, and the man who captained Italy to 2006 FIFA World Cup glory is looking forward to a visit which brings back happy memories of his Al-Ahli Club days
.
Cannavaro, the former FIFA World Player of the Year, will be in Dubai as ambassador for the new Italian Medical Center which opens in Umm Suqeim next month.
“I’m very happy to be visiting Dubai again, as I have so many good memories of my time with Al Ahli Club,” said the former Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid star, who will be visiting the medical centre’s Arab Health exhibition stand at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Dubai’s first multi-disciplinary clinic of Italian doctors opens on 7 February as part of plans by the Medicina Futura Group to develop a network of medical facilities in the UAE.
It will be the first to be established outside Italy by the Group, which employs 1,000 staff including 500 doctors, at four hospitals and 10 clinics between Naples and Rome.
“We are delighted to have Fabio as our ambassador,” said Simone Improta, CEO of the Medicina Futura Group. “He is one of Italy’s all-time great footballers, and is a wonderful partner to help raise awareness that we will be offering the very best in Italian medical care.”
Italy’s 2006 World Cup triumph was the pinnacle of Cannavaro’s illustrious club and international career. The same year he also won the Ballon d'Or award, becoming only the third defender to do so.
Cannavaro ended his playing career in Dubai, joining Al Ahli in 2010 but being forced to retire by injury the following year after 16 appearances for the club.
He continued with Al Ahli as a technical advisor and brand ambassador and went on to become assistant to head coach Cosmin Olaroiu before leaving to join Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande as head coach. He is currently head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
