GIFAS, a player for French-Korean cooperation
21.11.2016: Thirty-four French aviation, space, defence and security manufacturing companies will
|
Thirty-four French aviation, space, defence and security manufacturing companies will take part in a mission to South Korea from 23–25 November 2016 to boost French-Korean cooperation.
The development of business ties in the field of aerospace spans several decades and has resulted in long-lasting strategic and industrial partnerships, in the areas of civil aviation, defence and space.
With the signing of the intergovernmental defence pact in 1992 that was recently renewed in July 2016 between France and South Korea stronger strategic opportunities have opened up for manufacturers on both sides.
The French Government Defence procurement agency (DGA) and its Korean counterpart, DAPA (Defence Acquisition Program Administration) have given their full backing to this outward mission to forge closer ties.
It is the joint initiative of GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales) and its Korean opposite numbers, KDIA (Korean Defence Industry Association) and KAIA (Korean Aerospace Industry Association).
Accordingly, 34 GIFAS member companies will travel to Seoul and a number of manufacturing sites from 23–25 November 2016 that will bring together the sector specialists of both countries.
The major aerospace, defence and security groups – Airbus, MBDA, Safran and Thales – will be out in force in addition to 27 subcontractors, suppliers, SMEs and original equipment manufacturers.
The mission leader, Mr Marwan Lahoud, Chairman of GIFAS and EVP International, Strategy and Public Affairs of the Airbus Group, will be accompanied by five GIFAS Board members to South Korea.
By creating this opportunity to meet and enter into discussions with Korea’s industrialists they aim to strengthen the strategic French-Korean partnership, by emphasizing the French manufacturers’ resolve to cooperate with their Korean counterparts over the long term.
The main purpose of these encounters, apart from promoting the French aerospace and defence industry and the quality of equipment produced by its members, is to capitalise on France’s prowess in the civilian and defence sectors, and foster new industrial partnerships
