NIKEN teams up with Spain’s prestigious La Vuelta

24.08.2019: Sport runs deep in Yamaha's DNA and the company's passion for competition perfectly complements the philosophy of the Grand Tour cycle race promoters ASO and RCS.

Sport runs deep in Yamaha's DNA and the company's passion for competition perfectly complements the philosophy of the Grand Tour cycle race promoters ASO and RCS.

As part of a 3-year partnership agreed between ASO (Tour de France and La Vuelta) and RCS (Giro d'Italia), Yamaha has been asked to supply a fleet of NIKEN 3-wheel motorcycles that will provide assistance to teams and officials and contribute towards the smooth and successful running of Europe's most famous cycle races.
NIKEN: Multi-role, all-weather, all-road fun

ASO's decision to choose the Yamaha NIKEN as an official support vehicle for the Grand Tour events proved to be visionary when this revolutionary Sport Touring model demonstrated its unrivalled multi-role capabilities during the recent Tour de France.

In addition to performing splendidly in all weather conditions - from extreme 35 degree heat through to treacherous hail storms - this unique new generation vehicle has showed to be extremely popular with riders and passengers thanks to its impressive all-day comfort and dynamic performance on the most challenging roads.

Commented Grand Tour veteran Serge Guerin who has worked with ASO on 16 Tour de France events, "The NIKEN is perfectly suited to windy roads and cobblestone surfaces - and I find it to be very stable at low speeds. For me it is the best vehicle for these conditions!"

With 10 Tour de France events behind him, ASO rider Bruno Thibout was also impressed. "Like Serge, I found the NIKEN to be the ideal motorcycle for this kind of riding. The seating position and ergonomics make it very comfortable - an important factor when you are riding for 21 days - and on the downhill sections in the mountain stages I was impressed with the bike's high levels of grip and stability."

NIKEN: Supporting La Vuelta throughout 3272.2 kilometres and 21 stages

Following a well-earned summer break the NIKEN fleet will head to Spain where they will once again perform the role of official support vehicles at La Vuelta, the third race in the Grand Tour series.

With a history that goes back to 1934, La Vuelta attracts a huge world-wide following every summer. Run over 3 weeks from August 24 to September 15 and incorporating 21 stages - including nine punishing days in the mountains - La Vuelta winds through some of Spain's most beautiful and rugged countryside.

La Vuelta 2019 starts in Salinas de Torrevieja on August 24, and finishes in Madrid on September 15, and race fans can follow the event on Yamaha's social media channels.
