Jon Aberasturi knows how to win: he has amassed 15 professional victories worldwide during his career. Also, he is reliable, raising his arms across the finish line every year for the past six seasons.

Aberasturi briefly reached the WorldTour in 2013 with Euskaltel-Euskadi but was forced to drop to continental level after the team folded. From there, he had to work his way back through the lower ranks of professional cycling before finally returning to the top level nine years later. The 32-year-old from Vitoria-Gasteiz signed a contract that will see him ride for Trek-Segafredo through 2023.



Aberasturi is currently in action in his home Grand Tour, the Vuelta a España, and placed 6th in Stage 2. The Basque rider's strength lies in the sprints, particularly in the arduous finishes where pure sprinters struggle to survive.


With his vast experience, he expertly knows how to navigate bunch sprints, and he will be a massive asset to the Team in sprint finishes where he will take on a principal role in our lead-out train, and in some cases, fight for another victory himself.



Jon Aberasturi: "I had a strong desire to return to the WorldTour after a few years in the Pro Tour level. Everyone I spoke with gave me a very good impression of Trek-Segafredo. When I spoke with the Team's directors, they told me that the type of rider they were looking for fit my profile.


Also, the way the Team rides sprints, with their lead-out train, suits me very well. I will be there to help attain victories by launching the sprinters, but also, I will have my opportunities. When I get chances, I will make the most of them, and I will help the Team when it is asked of me."
