On September 2nd 2021, the new head of the Operational Air Traffic Squadron (ECAO) in Las Palmas, Commander Luis A. Fernández García, took office at ENAIRE's Air Traffic Control Centre in the Canary Islands. This post is renewed every two years.
ENAIRE's Canary Islands Regional Office and the Las Palmas ECAO coordinate civil and military flights in the upper airspace of the Canary Islands.

Canary Islands Region
From its Air Control Centre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands, ENAIRE manages the air navigation services for a geographical area spanning 1,370,000 square kilometres. Especially over ocean areas where the Canarian archipelago and part of Western Sahara are located.
