After a long season, we are pleased to be able to reward the work of Lauretta Hanson and Jakob Egholm with contract extensions. Hanson will remain an important part of our women’s squad for a further two seasons while Egholm has added one year to his contract.





LAURETTA HANSON - 2023


Lauretta started the season on a good note with a bronze medal at the Australian National Championship road race. She carried this form through the season as she performed key domestique duties, notably at the Healthy Ageing Tour and Tour de l’Ardèche, the latter where she also grabbed a podium on the penultimate stage.



Lauretta Hanson: “I’m so excited to be continuing with Trek-Segafredo for the next 2 years. I’ve been a part of the team since its inception in 2019 and each year has been different. 2019, I was still learning; 2020, I was recovering from concussion and, like everyone, adapting to COVID; and now finally in 2021 I feel like I’ve taken a big step up - doing more for my teammates later into races.



“We have a really strong team and such a good environment. I mostly work as a domestique, but I do it happily because my teammates understand and appreciate the work I do. They’ve trusted in me over the past few years and have helped me along the way as I’ve learned my craft. I hope I can now repay that by helping us win more races.



“The classics are my favourite and that’s likely where my focus will be, but there are quite a few big stage races coming in 2022. I’m looking forward to being a part of the growth in cycling but also to new experiences with Trek-Segafredo.”



Ina-Yoko Teutenberg, Sports Director: “We are really happy to keep Lauretta with the Team for the next two seasons. Lauretta is a helper and race results don’t reflect her true contribution to the Team, but it has been clear to anyone watching the races how valuable she has been this season.



“There have been great performances from Lauretta, such as at the Healthy Ageing Tour where she was key to helping Ellen (van Dijk) hold on to the overall victory and these demonstrate her character. Lauretta always pushes herself to do the best job for her teammates, but especially this year her overall level has noticeably improved. We’re looking forward to keeping that momentum going as Lauretta progresses in her cycling career.”




JAKOB EGHOLM - 2022


A lack of racing in 2020 due to the pandemic made it a particularly difficult year to transition into the big league for Egholm. This, combined with Jakob’s own illness, set him on the back foot when he arrived at Trek-Segafredo in 2021.



Despite the tough start, the former junior World Champion put his head down and got to work for the second part of the season. We saw him contribute to Team results, particularly in his home race the Tour of Denmark, as well as getting his first taste racing one-day classics.



Jakob Egholm: “I didn’t have the smoothest first year on the WorldTour. Spring was a difficult part of the season for me due to getting Covid while I was trying to get settled at this level. The second part of the season went much better and now I feel very much at home here. I’m over the moon to be able to stay with Trek-Segafredo to keep evolving and improving. To be a part of this group is really special to me.



“I would like to improve especially in the classics. It didn’t really succeed for me this year so I would like to go for another try. I really like being a part of the classics team so if I can improve together with them and become a more important part of the group would be great for me.



Also, I’m keen to keep doing stage races because I really enjoy that and I hadn’t had the opportunity to do that so much before joining the Team. I think that racing more stage races will lift my overall level also. We will see what will happen, but in any case I want to help the Team to as much success as possible.”



Steven de Jongh, Sports Director:  “Jakob didn’t have the easiest year due to injuries and illness, which is especially frustrating for a young guy in his first year in the WorldTour. But, later in the year Jakob was able to return to fitness and put in some strong rides to help the Team which gave us an idea of his potential.



“We decided to extend his contract to give him the chance to grow as a rider and really find his feet in the peloton. Jakob is a very motivated rider, hungry to race and put in 100% for the Team. Hopefully he can do that next year without the unfortunate obstacles of 2021.”
