An end is in sight to the problem of multiple phone numbers. Thanks to the Cytel.iBx being showcased at CeBIT 2007, users can now be reached on a single number at four separate locations. Up to four different profiles can be created for each user, in most cases their office, DECT link, cell phone and home office.

If users are away from their desk, they can activate the 'cell phone' profile - even remotely - and their calls are forwarded to their cell phone, home office or DECT link. Calls received on a cell phone can easily be routed back to the office without the caller having to phone again. The Call Through server incorporated in the telecommunications system also allows conversations to be conducted on the move using an SIP provider, fixed network or remote locations.

Internet phone users now no longer have to remain a closed circle. Thanks to the new telecommunications system developed by a CeBIT 2007 exhibitor, around 70 million Skype users worldwide are now also linked to the fixed network.

The system independently locates a free line for outgoing/incoming Skype calls, allowing up to 99 calls simultaneously. According to the manufacturer, installation is child's play, taking around ten minutes, the new system benefits from excellent compatibility with established systems and there is no need to install Skype on company PCs. Upgrades are simply available online.

Conventional shrink-wrapped photo ID cards could soon be a thing of the past. A Taiwanese company will be unveiling a new wireless ID handset at CeBIT 2007 complete with company logo, photo and the user's name. This multifunctional handset can also be used, among other things, as a media player and to send and receive messages.

Radio networks are going to be more reliable and easy to use in future. One Taiwanese manufacturer is offering a multi-radio system with up to four connections for greater flexibility. According to this CeBIT 2007 exhibitor, one key advantage is the far greater reliability of wireless networks. The high-performance system reaches a transmission speed of 108 Mbps.

A new pre-paid smartcard will dispense with the need for tickets and small change when using public transport in future. Long queues to pay the driver or at ticket machines will be a thing of the past. The card - on show at CeBIT 2007 - can be topped up at machines. The price for a given journey is read off by a computer system in the bus, tram or train and debited from the card, which can also be used to pay for parking and shopping.

Public transport systems no longer need inspectors, just an onboard computer to scan passengers' smartcards and automatically debit the correct fare from the card inserted. The high-tech fare collector, which is making its debut at CeBIT 2007, works with cards such as the Mastercard PayPass and Visa Wave credit cards. It incorporates a GPS/GPRS kit for fleet management and a Bluetooth communication interface. An i-button reader is available as an optional extra. Thanks to its weather- and shock-resistant housing, the computer is also suitable for outdoor use.

A new wireless network is set to provide an all-in-one bookkeeping and administrative solution. According to the manufacturer, the centralized access point management feature of the Service Controller being premiered at CeBIT 2007 can handle up to 10,000 users.
