Matteo Bobbi's adventure in Le Mans Series 2009 starts from the highest place on the podium. The Milanese driver, with his crew-mates Andrea Piccini and Thomas Biagi, ruled the ‘1000Km de Catalunya' of class LM P2, in the first race of the season after the fourth time in yesterday's qualifying (1'37.026).

The choice of hard compound tyres was the keystone of the race that allowed drivers of the number 30 Lola of Racing Box to race on double stints despite partially compromising its competitiveness in qualifying.

Matteo Bobbi:

'Victory is definitely the best way of starting the season; in the pas months we developed the car without any indication on our opponents, we based the work only on data acquired and on driving sensations.

At the eve, even if optimist, we were really uncertain of our real competitiveness: we could have been uncatchable as well as a second slow per lap. At the end we obtained a success that awarded not only drivers but the whole team that made a masterpiece preparing a winning car with some components designed and realized directly by the team.

After today's victory, expectations from us for next races will be higher. Le Mans Series is a very difficult series: a six-hours race requires a lot of strength from drivers and challenges the reliability of the car, traffic is moreover something not to underestimate. We started with the right foot as I did here with Thomas Biagi in 2003; now we hope the season can continue as it did back then!"

Next round of the Le Mans Series is scheduled for the 8-10 May on the legendary Belgian track of Spa-Francorchamps.
