Luis Sainero and Amir Kouch Win Wild Card Entry to YXZ1000R Cup Superfinale Following Baja Aragon Victory!

29.07.2021: Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to confirm that the second and final wild card invite to the prestigious 2021 YXZ1000R European Cup SuperFinale has been awarded to Luis Sainero and Amir Kouch, following their impressive victory at the Baja Aragňn in Spain

Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to confirm that the second and final wild card invite to the prestigious 2021 YXZ1000R European Cup SuperFinale has been awarded to Luis Sainero and Amir Kouch, following their impressive victory at the Baja Aragòn in Spain last weekend.

The final wild card invitation was awarded to the best-placed YXZ1000R finisher at the Baja Aragón in Teruel, Spain, after two days of highly competitive racing. In sweltering conditions, seven of the eight entered YXZ1000Rs managed to reach the finish line, with Luis Sainero and Amir Kouch at the forefront, claiming victory.

Sainero and Kouch’s win came after completing a near-perfect stage on Saturday against main rivals Javier Alarcón and Francisco Javier Pérez. Alarcón and Pérez started the main event with a 4:44 lead, but it was short-lived, as Sainero and Kouch reduced that advantage to 2:10 during the morning stage.

In the third and final special stage, Sainero and Kouch upped the ante and were able to capitalize on a problem experienced by Alarcón and Pérez, to take the win with a 9:54 buffer. Alarcón and Pérez held on for second, with Eduard Iborra and Albert Blanco completing the YXZ1000R European Cup podium in third.

As a result, Sainero and Kouch were awarded the second wild card entry to the 2021 YXZ1000R European Cup SuperFinale. They will join the first wild card winners, Ghislain De Mévius and Johan Jalet, on the confirmed entry list. The SuperFinale will take place on October 28 – 30 in Portalegre, Portugal, where appealing prizes will be awarded to the top-three finishers.

Sainero and Kouch now lead the YXZ1000R Cup in Spain with a 10-point advantage over Edesio and Juan José Caamaño, while Alarcón and Pérez are a further 8-points adrift, in third.

Camelia Liparoti: YXZ1000R European Cup Co-ordinator

“The Spanish stage of the YXZ1000R Cup in Aragon was a great success. We had many strong teams, and a very high level of YXZ1000R competitors racing at the Baja Aragon this year. Baja Aragon is a legendary race that attracts an outstanding level of international participation, and this year, we can be very proud that we had seven Yamaha YXZ1000Rs finish inside the top-10 within the national category.

The fastest team, Luis Sainero and Amir Kouch, won the final wild card for the YXZ1000R European Cup Superfinale that will take place in Portugal in October, which is exciting as this team has been impressive with their speed and results. We have several races remaining throughout the nine countries that are competing in the YXZ1000R European Cup, and that is exciting.

We really look forward to getting back together for the biggest meeting of the year for the YXZ1000R European Cup drivers, and that is the YXZ SuperFinale that will take place in Portalegre, Portugal from the 28th till the 30th of October.”
