Two podiums in Oschersleben at the season opener of the ADAC GT Masters

The Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium based Mühlner Motorsport Team ran two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S at the opening round of the ADAC GT Masters in Oschersleben.

Driving start number 15 were the Bergmeister brothers Jörg and Tim (Langenfeld) whilst sharing duties on the number 16 were the two Dutchmen Michael Bleekemolen and Ronald van de Laar.

From the off, both Mühlner Porsches appeared towards the top of the timing monitors in free practice. Both Bergmeisters were at a similarly high level and Michael Bleekemolen’s times also delighted the team. Ronald van de Laar, making his debut in the car, felt his way in gently and improved from session to session.

In qualifying for the first race Jörg Bergmeister secured a front row start with second place and Michael Bleekemolen was second fastest Porsche on the grid with 11th out of the impressive field of 24 starters.

In qualifying for the second race, Tim Bergmeister qualified 5th and Ronald van de Laar 19th on the grid. Overall a good result for the Mühlner Motorsport Team, particularly given that Oschersleben as a circuit does not suit the Porsche.

In the first race Bleekemolen was able to work up to a superb 6th place until the Aston Martin ahead of him spun and rolled back across the track. In taking avoiding action to avoid a collision he landed in the gravel trap from which he was unable to escape under his own power.

Right from the start Jörg Bergmeister set the pole position man under pressure and took the lead on the 15th lap. Two laps after the driver change, Tim Bergmeister had to let the Ford GT past again and finished in second place.

In the second race on Sunday, Tim Bergmeister drove the start turn and dropped from 5th to 7th, handing over the car to his brother in 6th place after one of the cars ahead dropped out. A spin caused Ronald van de Laar to drop to the back of the field, a lap behind the leaders, before Bleekemolen took over and drove a fast and mistake free stint to bring the car up to 15th by the end.

Jörg Bergmeister drove one quick lap after the other to make time and places up. His charge was rewarded with third place, thus the Bergmeister brothers earned the Mühlner Motorsport Team a second podium.

Overall a good weekend as the team also enjoyed perfect reliability. With their two podiums, Mühlner Motorsport were best placed Porsche Team and thus won the Manufacturers class in both races.
