The National Motor Museum Trust has partnered with British tech innovators Podium Legends to launch the first NFT collection of images and videos from the NMMT photography and film archive.

Mixing heritage with innovation by bringing digital ownership to a new audience, the partnership gives motorsport, F1 and classic car enthusiasts a rare opportunity to own a piece of motorsport heritage. The partnership will see 1,700 of the most iconic and historically important photographs and movies, from the NMMT’s archive collection of over 1.7 million items, released as NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

Podium Legends Collection // 1, which is available now, includes such stunning images as Ayrton Senna at the 1985 British GP, the 1964 Bluebird CN7 Land Speed Record, and the McLaren MP4/4. The images capture the golden era of motorsport, from the dangers of the 1950s and ‘60s when titans such as Fangio, Moss and Clark fought for glory, to the boom years of the 1980s which saw racing icons such as Senna, Prost, Piquet and Mansell do battle.

A portion of the NFT proceeds will go towards supporting the museum and helping to preserve motorsport history for generations to come. The collection marks a new era in the NFT market, moving away from pixelated art and presenting an inclusive approach to this new collectable asset.

National Motor Museum Trust Chief Executive, Dr Jon Murden, said: “The National Motor Museum is delighted to be working with Podium Legends on this exciting initiative to make accessible some of the hidden treasures within our collection. Containing almost 1.7 million items, the National Motor Museum is home to one of the world’s foremost motoring and motor sport archives.

"We are always exploring new ways to open up our unique and precious collections to those with a passion for motoring heritage, so the digital opportunities offered by our partnership. We hope that collectors will be excited by the items within our first NFT drop, which provide a tantalising foretaste of the exclusive insights into motor sport history that our archives contain."

The inaugural collection consists of three levels of NFT rarity, named Legendary, Icon and Collector. The Collector entry-level prices start at £250, while for those wanting a physical as well as digital copy, the Podium Legends Mint & Print package includes a Limited Edition fine-art print, accompanied by its unique QR code confirming ownership and authenticity.

Collection // 1 is now available at www.podiumlegends.com and through OpenSea, opensea.io/collection/podiumlegends-01. The collection can also be viewed in the metaverse via the Podium Legends Spatial Gallery.

Motorsport collectors and enthusiasts who are not users of cryptocurrencies and want to learn about the NFT space can contact Podium Legends via their website, www.podiumlegends.com, to join group chats or get one-on-one guidance and advice.
