Aigner/Wicha starting leg2 in third place

16.02.2007: Aigner/Wicha starting leg2 in third place

Rally Norway 2007, February 16th – 18th 2007, Leg 1, after SS8

Aigner (AUT)/Wicha (GER) – Mitsubishi EVO IX – with a convincing and very consistent first day

A successful and uplifting experience today for Andreas Aigner and co-driver Klaus Wicha: The two are in an excellent third position in Group N with their Mitsubishi EVO IX after the first day of the WRC event in Norway, they are classified 26th overall! Aigner continuously worked his way up the order today, showing a great deal of consistency.

Andreas Aigner: "I’m satisfied with my performance today. It has been a very difficult and challenging day, which we were able to complete in a good position. But we made a mistake once or twice choosing tyres – especially in regard to the length of the studs. We need to do a better job tomorrow."

After eight special stages, Sweden’s Patrik Flodin (Subaru) is leading Group N ahead of local hero Eyvind Brynildsen (Mitsubishi).

Team boss Raimund Baumschlager: "It has been an extremely important day for Andi’s self-confidence. What I liked most about it was that he performed very consistently and didn’t try to force it. He has finally understood that a certain dash of tactics doesn’t hurt your chances of being successful. And the preliminary result of that is of course very good."

Tomorrow’s leg will get under way at 8 a.m., with a total of six special stages scheduled.
