Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand debuts in Thailand Super Series opener at Sepang

The Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand will debut during the opening Thailand Super Series round in Sepang, Malaysia, where nine Porsche cars will be in action across the GTM, GTC and GT4 classes which will feature four current Porsche Carrera Cup Asia drivers.

Evolving from the existing Cayman GT4 Trophy Thailand that first ran in the championship last year, the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand has its own dedicated podium and is eligible for all Porsche entries in the GT4 and GTM class, with nine confirmed including three returning Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (981) cars.

Entering this year’s Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand GT4 Class is the returning AAS Motorsport, who enjoyed a strong Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia weekend at the Sepang circuit with Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, scoring a Pro-Am win and overall podium for the new Porsche 911 GT3 R, and have entered a car in this year’s Porsche Supercup.

The reigning Cayman GT4 Trophy Thailand champions will field two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (981) for Pasu Liptapanlop, who took four class podiums in the series last year, and TCR Thailand Touring Car Championship convert Nattachak Hanjitkasem.

Joining them is last year’s championship runner-up Tosaphol Phamyai, who will once again drive the #14 Morseng Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport (981). The Thai ace ended last season with a maiden victory, which clinched him second in the standings, and will look to carry that form into this campaign.

Running alongside the GT4 field is GTC entry Ian Ross Geekie, who returns to the B-Quik Racing Team-entered #18 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 997) that he took victory with at the Buriram finale last year.

Competing in the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand GTM class, five cars will be in action, including a pair of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars from Earl Bamber Motorsport / B-Quik Racing Team in the Pro-Am category. Carrera Cup Asia pair Antares Au and John Curran will drive the #11 machine, with Silver-grade duo Ahmad F. Alam and Daniel Storkersen entering the #12 car.

est Cola PTT Racing Team also return with Munkong and Tanart Sathienthirakul, in addition to his Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia commitments, back on board the #15 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and hoping to build on their victory in last year’s final Thailand Super Series round.

A single entry from True Vision Motorsports completes the Pro-Am Porsche runners, with Suttiluck Buncharoen making his debut in the series. The Carrera Cup Asia Pro-Am front-runner will drive the #78 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Finally, Am entry TR Motorsport field the #29 Porsche 911 GT3 (Type 997) for Chris Quinlan and promising Danish youngster Victor Conrad Spliid Jensen.

Alexandre Gibot, Head of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, said:
“We’re looking forward to the first-ever Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand at this weekend’s Thailand Super Series opener in Malaysia. There are a lot of new and returning teams and drivers to the championship, so we wish all of them good luck for this weekend and the season ahead.”
