The ATS Formula 3 Cup will travel to Red Bull Ring, Austria this weekend for a big event shortly before the Formula One circus arrives. The only foreign leg of the German racing series for young talents in the support programme of the ADAC GT Masters will see a grid of drivers from all over the world once again.


It will be exciting to see if the current leader of the championship, Markus Pommer contesting for Team Lotus, will succeed at the 4.326-km track in the green heart of Styria. If he continues his string of victories winning at the Ring would be a debut for the driver from Neckarsulm.



Austria will mark the third of eight racing weekends in the German Formula 3.

Markus Pommer from Neckarsulm, who contests for Team Lotus, is leading the ranking, with Briton Sam MacLeod from Van Amersfoort Racing and Malaysian Nabil Jeffri from Team Motopark on his tail. Behind them, a tight grid is battling for valuable points. Dutchman Indy Dontje from Team Lotus is the leader of the rookie ranking. The 21-year old aims to become the best rookie this season.


This plan could work out. One of his predecessors, Lucas Auer from Kufstein, won this title in 2012 and also finished runner-up in the overall ranking. Now, the nephew of Formula 1 legend Gerhard Berger successfully contests the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.


The ATS Formula 3 Cup features one abroad race in the 2014 season. The 4.326- km circuit in the green heart of Austria is the favourite racetrack of Maximilian Hackl from Bavaria, who contests for Amkon Motorsport.


 Local favourite Franz Wöss and his Racing Team aim to score points on home turf with Luca Iannacone from Rome, who is well-known in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. “We are always excited to come back to Styria,” says Head of Organisation Sebastian Wittrisch. “Our young drivers enjoy a lot of support there.”


Good collaboration with the ADAC and MSC Spielberg

The ATS Formula 3 Cup is inviting about twenty teenagers from the SOS Children's Village in Klagenfurt to the event at Red Bull Ring. They will get a chance to look behind the scenes of the fastest German single-seater series, including a guided tour through the paddock, a visit of the race control centre, the media centre as well as the pitlane and the starting grid.

Live timing and a live stream will be available worldwide at www.formel3.de for all races of the ATS Formula 3 Cup within the support programme of the ADAC GT Masters. In addition, TV stations Sport 1 and Kabel 1 will broadcast highlights of the racing weekends a few days later.
