Genk expect exciting DKM finals

01.10.2014: Champions will be named in Genk Next weekend (October 4th-5th) the finale of the German Kart Championship

Champions will be named in Genk

Next weekend (October 4th-5th) the finale of the German Kart Championship is going to take place in Belgian Genk. The three DMSB grade series are causing a lot of interest regarding the last race of the season as well. More than 130 participants are going to start, which promises diversified races because in all three series the Champion is still to be found out.

A DKM season hasn’t been this exciting in a long time. In all three series, the drivers are still fighting for the Championship titles. Counting more than 130 national and international drivers, the fields of participants of the three series German Kart Championship, German Junior Kart Championship and German Shifterkart Championship are strongly manned for the finale as well, which highlights the huge interest this racing series is causing.

The track in Belgium is part of the DKM racing calendar for the fourth time and is quite popular among the drivers as well as the teams. Due to its modern design, the 1.360m long track provides numerous chances of taking over and is a guarantee for diversified races and close decisions. As the overall leading drivers Jehan Daruvala (DKM), Mick Junior (DJKM) and Rick Dreezen (DSKM) are going to travel to Belgium.

In the top class of German kart racing, Brit Jehan Daruvala (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) returned to the fight for the title in Kerpen. By achieving a double victory he diligently collected points and is starting into the races as the overall leading driver.

Really close behind him is Martijn van Leeuwen (Keijzer Racing); the Dutchman had a lot of bad luck lately and had to deal with a falling out in Kerpen, but shows no sign of surrender: “Things like this belong to motorsports. Bearing in mind the void results everything is still possible”, explained van Leeuwen.

The decision regarding the third place on the podium is going to be a close one as well: Russian Egor Stupenkov (Forza Racing) is currently on third place but has to look out - André Matisic (KKC Racing/PDB Germany) is waiting close behind.

The reigning German Kart Champion only theoretically still has chances of defending his title but is still going to attack fully and is aiming for a place among the top three in the end.

At the juniors, multiple freshly achieved Champions are going to start. Enaam Ahmed (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) from England has won the European and World Kart Championship this year and now wants to add the German title to his achievements too. On the overall list of rankings he is currently only on fourth place though.

The list is being led by German vice World and European Champion Mick Junior (KSM Racing Team). The Tony kart driver has achieved two season victories so far and thereby the most successes of all. His direct pursuer is David Beckmann: After winning the vice title in 2013, the ADAC Sports Foundation’s sponsored driver wants to win the title this season.

“In Kerpen, I have celebrated my first victory this season and am really looking forward to Genk. I like the track very much”, the youngster said confidently. Maybe another driver is going to be on top in the end though. There are still chances for Maximilian Fewtrell (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) on third place, Enaam Ahmed and Juan Correa (Energy Corse) from the USA.

The fight for the title at the DSKM hasn’t been this exciting in a long time: The two threefold Champions Rick Dreezen (CRG Holland) and Jorrit Pex (CRG Holland) are currently leading the overall list of rankings with the same amount of points and are on their way to make history.

Never before has a driver won the DSKM four times. It’s still a long road until then though; the duo knows the track in Genk as well as no other and is going to fight for the victories on a level playing field. “This season is really crazy. After the first half of the year things didn’t look good at all and now I’m back in the fight for the title”, explains Jorrit Pex.

Maybe the new German Champion is going to be from Finland though. Simo Puhakka (AVG Racing) made his way quietly into the group of favorites and is only four points behind the leading duo. Irish John Norris (Mach1 Motorsport) from German chassis manufacturer Mach1’s squad also still has chances of winning the title.

During his first shifterkart season he was immediately able to establish himself in the front and won in Oschersleben.

After cricital voices emerged about the functioning of the usually so popular race-control, series coordinator Stefan Wagner reacted immediately and has already implemented new structures for the finale in Genk: “We have received numerous calls and tips from our participants.

We’re taking these very seriously and are trying to react to them. For Genk, we’ve increased the number of staff at the race-control, have adjusted responsibilities and are going to use new technology again.”

Just like the previous races, qualifying and the heats are going to take place on Saturday. The 34 best drivers of all series are going to enter the final races.

Everyone not travelling to Genk is going to be able to follow the events live via DKM-video stream HERE
