02.03.2008: Emil Ohman wins hard fought Oppdal

The most exciting snowcross series on the planet, the FIM Snowcross World Championship, has finally started today on the Norwegian track of Oppdal, in the heart of the country.

After the unexpected withdrawal of two time World Champion Peter Ericson, who was stopped by a tough flu but proved his bravery by racing the free practice session, Sweden fellow rider Emil Ohman, who classified 12th in last year’s World Championship standings, took the overall victory from Finn Niko Korsumaeki, the winner of the final round of 2007.

The two were the stars of this extremely battled opening round, collecting a win and a second place each.

Viktor Stenman completed the podium courtesy of two solid heats while Tom Johansson and Hannu Toppala rounded off the top five.

Home rider Stale Eggen was a surprising eighth in the overall standings, as he was the youngest rider on the field because of his age of 16 and a half years.

The next meeting is scheduled for the 8th of March in Tuuri, Finland, where Ohman will enter as the current series leader.
