World Series by Renault event - return to Silverstone

29.08.2015: The summer break is over and the World Series by Renault is back! This September

The summer break is over and the World Series by Renault is back! This September 5 and 6, the competitors in the Renault Sport Trophy, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5 Series return to the track at Silverstone.

The 100% Renault meeting returns to the British circuit and the fans will be treated to a programme featuring eight races and several on track activities, including the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show and Renault Sport Show. Tickets are available on www.worldseriesbyrenault.com.

Venue for the first Grand Prix in the history of the Formula 1 World Championship; the legendary Silverstone circuit has been changed over the decades but it has retained its character. It offers the drivers of the three Renault categories one of the fastest challenges of the season.

The Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show, also making its return to the Northamptonshire circuit, will feature Antonio Felix da Costa and Oliver Rowland. The British driver’s participation is his reward as mid-season leader in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. The Renault Sport Show and collector parades will complete the list of on-track activities.

The public can take in the always impressive Renault Sport Show or stroll the pit lane and paddock to meet the stars of tomorrow. Over at the Renault Village, visitors can try out the Renault Kadjar, Twizy and Twingo and check out the Twin’Run, Captur and Renault Dézir Concept cars. Simulators, the pit stop challenge, bouncy castle and road safety stand will be among the many activities on offer, as will the Freestyl’air show and Formula E show car.

Formula Renault 3.5 Series: who will stop Oliver Rowland and Matthieu Vaxiviere?

As the second half of the season gets underway, two drivers are in a league of their own. Leader, Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports) will race at home. The Englishman wants to continue his form which has resulted in three wins and two additional podium finishes in the last five races. Winner on three occasions in 2015, Lotus F1 Team Junior driver Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus) will try to reduce his 26-point deficit to the Racing Steps Foundation protégé.

A bit further back in the standings after his mixed results in Austria, Jazeman Jaafar (Fortec Motorsports) wants to bounce back even more so as his third place position is now under threat from Dean Stoneman (DAMS).

The best placed rookie and Red Bull Junior Team driver would like nothing more than to take his maiden win in front of family and friends to make the break from his team mate and member of the McLaren Young Driver Development Programme Nyck de Vries (DAMS) and Tom Dillmann (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin).

For their part, Sean Gelael (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin), Alfonso Celis (AVF), Beitske Visser (AVF) and Bruno Bonifacio (International Draco Racing) will be keen to add to their point tallies. Absent in Austria, Philopaz Armand (Pons Racing) will make his return alongside the drive standing in for Roberto Merhi, who will be racing in Formula 1 at Monza.

Race 1: Saturday 5 September at 12:30
Race 2: Sunday 6 September at 12:30

Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0: Louis Delétraz looks to pull away

Solid leader with a 34-point lead, Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) will head to Silverstone with the objective of widening the gap from his rivals. Following his debut in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at the Red Bull Ring, the Swiss driver will compete in three races on the circuit where he took both ends of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC meeting last May.

The Geneva resident will, all the same, have to keep an eye on Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS leader, Jake Hughes (Koiranen GP). The British driver currently leads a chase group, which includes Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing), Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) and Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport), all of whom are all gunning for their maiden victory.

The goal for Dennis Olsen (Manor MP Motorsport), Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team) and Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP) will be to score vital points in the race for the title.

Their adversaries refuse to admit defeat, especially Ignazio D’Agosto (Manor MP Motorsport) and Callan O’Keeffe (Fortec Motorsports). Darius Oskoui (ART Junior Team) and Harrison Scott each have 20 points as they continue their battle for top rookie honours.

Thiago Vivacqua (JD Motorsport), Martin Kodric (Fortec Motorsports), Anton De Pasquale (Koiranen GP) and Simon Gachet (Tech 1 Racing) will all try to continue the strong form they showed in Hungary. For his part, James Allen (ARTA Engineering) will try to re-enter the top ten.

Lasse Sørensen (Manor MP Motorsport), Hugo De Sadeleer (Tech 1 Racing), Charlie Eastwood (AVF), Amaury Richard (ARTA Engineering) and Valentin Hasse-Clot, now with Fortec Motorsports, will give it all they’ve got to score their first points.

Wild-card entries, Ferdinand Habsburg (Fortec Motorsports), Nikita Mazepin (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Matteo Ferrer (Cram Motorsport), Colin Noble (Mark Goldwin Racing), Matthew Graham (Mark Burdett Motorsport), Sahara Force India Academy protégé Jehan Daruvala (Fortec Motorsports), as well as Will Palmer (ART Junior Team), current BRDC F4 leader and son of former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer will complete the field.

Race 2: Saturday 5 September at 17:25
Race 3: Sunday 6 September at 14:05

Renault Sport Trophy: the mid-season point

Already assured of holding on to the reigns of the Elite category with 75 points from a possible 75, Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) will want to continue his dominating form. Behind him, Andrea Pizzitola (ART Junior Team), Vittorio Ghirelli (Zele Racing), Roy Geerts (V8 Racing), Luciano Bacheta (Oregon Team) and David Fumanelli (Oregon Team) will have just one objective: win the Elite Sprint race.

Chasing the leaders, Indy Dontje (ART Junior Team), Federico Leo (V8 Racing), Bas Schothorst (Zele Racing), Nicky Pastorelli (V8 Racing) and Alan Hellmeister (Oregon Team) will try to move up the hierarchy while Pieter Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) will make his debut in replacing Miguel Ramos.

In Prestige, Diederik Sijthoff (V8 Racing) comes to Silverstone with a slim two-point lead from Richard Gonda (ART Junior Team). The Slovak driver will count on his qualifying dominance to take command of the category.

In the field, the battle is just as intense with Dario Capitanio (Oregon Team), Toni Forné (ART Junior Team), Max Braams (V8 Racing) and Stefano Costantini (V8 Racing) all closely bunched. All four will aim for their first triumph in the category. After two retirements, Niccolò Nalio (Oregon Team) will hope to return to the sharp end of the order

António Coimbra (Equipe Verschuur), Jeroen Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) and Adalberto Baptista (Oregon Team) will try to move up the class hierarchy.

In Endurance, the Dario Capitanio - David Fumanelli (Oregon Team duo) lead the way, but regular front runners Luciano Bacheta - Niccolò Nalio (Oregon Team) and Richard Gonda - Andrea Pizzitola (ART Junior Team) would love to bump them off the top spot in the general classification.

Of course, other teams will want to shine and close the gap to the leaders. This will be the case for Toni Forné - Indy Dontje (ART Junior Team), Steijn Schothorst - Jeroen Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) but also Bas Schothorst (Zele Racing) and Antonio Coimbra (Equipe Verschuur) with their new team mates: Andrés Mendez and Pieter Schothorst.

Unlucky as a tandem Max Braams - Roy Geerts (V8 Racing) will be out for revenge. After scoring their first points in Hungary, Philippe Bourgois - Vittorio Ghirelli (Zele Racing) will be in action. Adalberto Baptista - Alan Hellmeister (Oregon Team) and Stefano Costantini - Federico Leo (V8 Racing) will hope to re-enter the top ten, while Nicky Pastorelli - Diederik Sijthoff (V8 Racing) will hope to break their points duck.

Endurance Race: Saturday 5 September at 15:10
Sprint Race 1: Sunday 6 September at 11:25
Sprint Race 2: Sunday 6 September at 15:30

All the races from the weekend will be broadcast live on the Eurosport Player. The Formula Renault 3.5 Series will be televised live on Eurosport 2 and Eurosport 2 France. After the delayed showing of race 1, Eurosport 2 UK will air race 2 live.

The Eurosport networks will broadcast the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 on a delayed basis, as will Motors TV for the Renault Sport Trophy.

Jean-Pascal Dauce, Renault Sport Technologies Director of Motorsport: “Like the competitors, we all look forward to returning to the circuit following this long summer break. September will be extremely intense with three World Series by Renault meetings.

The teams, the drivers and we are thrilled to return to action at Silverstone, a name that resounds in the hearts of all motor racing enthusiasts. With its string of high-speed corners and its layout that rewards brave and daring drivers, the races in the three categories promise to be exciting and a number of competitors will be racing on their home track.

With weather that can be capricious, all the elements are coming together for a perfect start to the second half of the season that promises to be thrilling.”
